Synopsis: The Team is trapped inside the Hall of Justice for a cage match against a brutal alien gladiator!

Episode Notes:

  • Notable comic book character appearances include Despero and L-Ron.
  • The team creates a makeshift headquarters in Bludhaven. In the comics, Nightwing was the sworn protector to the city of Bludhaven until it was nuked by the villain, Chemo.
  • Mal Duncan assumes the Guardian identity this episode. In the Teen Titans comic book series, the non-powered Mal also utilized the Guardian armor to bolster his role on the team.
  • Virgil Hawkins mentions undergoing a treatment of  static shocks, a reference to his own series, “Static Shock.”

Synopsis: Nightwing tasks Blue Beetle with chasing down a group of potentially dangerous super-powered teenage runaways. But Blue’s not the only one hunting them…

  • The four runaways are an homage to the ethnic characters created for the Superfriends animated series in the 1970’s:
  • Virgil Hawkins (in addition to being Static, an established character in DC Comics) is an analogue to Black Vulcan, the electric-powered African-American Superfriend;
  • Eduardo Dorado Jr.‎ is an analogue to El Dorado, a Mexican Superfriend with teleportation powers;
  • Tye Longshadow is an analogue to Apache Chief, a Native American Supefriend who could grow in stature. Tye’s abilities differ, as he is able to project an astral form that can grow to a gigantic size;
  • Asami “Sam” Koizumi is a female analogue to Samurai, a Japanese Superfriend who could control winds and fly.
