Lord Chaos seeks to insure his own future in NEW TITANS #91 [1992].
|
|
Mythical Origins
In the beginning there was only Chaos, and from Chaos was born Gaea, mother of all life. From Gaea came Uranus, who would then become her mate. From them was born twelve gods known as the Titans of Myth. Uranus saw his children as a threat to him. He sought to slay his children, but Chronos slew his father before he could strike. The Titans ruled Olympus until Chronos and Rhea gave birth to Zeus, father of all the young gods.
Zeus slew his father Chronos and banished the Titans across the universe. But the Titans of Myth would not die. Instead, they named their new home New Chronos, in honor of their fallen leader. Furthermore, as the Titans were no longer worshipped, their powers began to wane.
The Titan Seeds
Rhea, wife of the now-dead Chronos, undertook a sacrifice mission to find twelve children to take their mantle and keep their name alive. And she found them: children born on planets throughout the universe children who were unwanted and about to die. Rhea rescued them and brought them to New Chronus for training.
Each of the children were given names that reflected the glory of Greece, the city that worshipped the gods. The children were given great powers, and were trained in the art of combat. They learned the beauty of life and art. And when their training was done, they were returned to their home worlds with their memories of their training erased so they could grow and learn from their own culture.
When they reached maturity, they would be returned to New Chronus to serve as the newest and greatest of all gods. But one seed retained her memory, and the knowledge drove her mad. Sparta of Synriannaq then launched a war against her sibling seeds, destroying all but three: Xanthi of Ozyron, Athyns of Karakann, and Troy of Earth.
The final three seeds were reunited by the Titans of Myth and sent to battle Sparta. Xanthi, the poet, died in the final conflict. Sparta, now wasted and mindless, was taken by Athyns to the planet Ozyron where he would serve Xanthi's homeworld.
Troy returned with new powers given to her by the Titans of Myth. Once on earth, she abandoned her heroic name Wonder Girl and became Troia.

Total Chaos
Robert Long, son of Donna Troy and Terry Long, was destined to be born sentient with godlike powers, Robert had the potential to become a power-mad despot known as Lord Chaos. As Donna went into labor, she was under attack on two fronts: The Team Titans traveled in the past to prevent Lord Chaos' birth by killing Donna Troy. At the same time, Lord Chaos traveled in the past to insure his own future.
Chaos battled both Titans teams and was able to prevent the Team Titans from killing Donna Troy. Robert Long was born, and Chaos believed his victory was assured. However, the Titans of Myth intervened, and stripped the baby of his godlike powers. They also took Lord Chaos, the false seed; the child whose future has been altered and should never have been.' The Titans gods absorbed Lord Chaos to make him learn humility. In their words, He is with us now. He will learn, or he will cease to be'
Donna Troy also petitioned to be stripped of her powers,, in an attempt to lead a normal life. The Titans of Myth granted this request. Following this, Donna Troy and the Team Titans relocated to a farm in New Jersey. Donna tried to live a normal life, and provide a home for the time-lost Team Titans. Fate was not kind. Villains and disasters struck their new home. This led Donna to rethink her decision. She petitioned the Titans of Myth to grant her powers once again. She was rejected.
The Return of Donna Troy
Years later, Troia was killed in battle with a rogue Superman robot. When she was reborn, The Titans of Myth realized an old prophecy had been fulfilled. Rhea foretold of a special child that would one day save the twelve Titans from destruction. When Donna Troy was reborn after her death, the Titans of Myth - knowing Donna was that chosen child - called her back to New Chronus. There, she became Goddess of the Moon with false memories as the wife of the Titan, Coeus.

Rhea and the Titans of Myth were exiled from Olympus, and settled on a moon they dubbed New Chronus. Through Rhea's wanton acts, the civilization The Titans of myth built was soon in ruins.
At the age of thirteen, the children were sent back to their respective worlds - to live their adult lives as normal beings. Furthermore, the Titan Mnemosyne implanted false memories in these children; they would think they lived their whole lives as normal beings. This was designed to teach the new Titan seeds humility - something the gods and titans never learned.
Soon, it became apparent that one seed retained her memory, and the knowledge drove her mad. Sparta of Synriannaq then launched a war against her sibling seeds, destroying all but three: Xanthi of Ozyron, Athyns of Karakann, and Troy of Earth. The final three seeds were reunited by the Titans of Myth and sent to battle Sparta.
Xanthi helped his fellow Titan seed, Athyns, remember his childhood on New Chronus. Shortly afterward, Xanthi sacrificed his life to save Athyns from Sparta's wrath. Sparta, now wasted and mindless, was taken by Athyns to the planet Ozyron where he would serve Xanthi's homeworld.
Troy returned with new powers given to her by the Titans of Myth. Once on earth, she abandoned her heroic name Wonder Girl and became Troia.

They took advantage of hostilities between warring planets in an effort to expand their control throughout the galaxy and gain safe passage to another reality. Donna Troy was used as a puppet - until the Teen Titans and the Outsiders located their former colleague and awakened her from their spell.
But the battle had its cost. Donna's sister-in-arms, Sparta, was used by the Titans of Myth in their mad quest for power. Having been stripped of most of her power, the Titans of Myth made her an officer in their royal military. Seeking to control the planet Minosyss, the Titans sacrificed Sparta's life in battle. Sparta's death began to awaken the brainwashed Troia.
Athyns - the sole survivor of his planet - joined the battle against the mad Titans on the planet, Minosyss. Allied with the remaining battle-torn Minosyssians, Athyns banded together with the Teen Titans, Outsiders and Donna Troy to prevent the Titans of Myth from claiming more lives. After the Titans of Myth were sent to Tartarus by Donna Troy, heroic Athyns elected to lead the fractured Minosyssians.

| Thia reveals herself as Lilith's mother... an origin with a short expiration date - from NEW TEEN TITANS (second series) #7 [1985]. |
|
Thia (the ancient Titan goddess of the sun) freed herself from her imprisonment in Tartarus and roamed the earth as a human woman. Taking many mortal husbands and lovers, she bore many children, who have since become the most politically and economically most powerful people on earth (they call themselves the Children of the Sun). Lilith Clay was one of those children. Lilith's father was the owner of Sun Publishing, and was killed by Thia once he served his purpose (like all of Thia's previous lovers). Lilith was later lost to her mother when a young nurse abducted her as a child.
As Lilith entered adulthood, Thia sensed her presence. Thia appeared to Lilith and explained her origins, as she abducted her to Olympus, where she sought to take over the home of the fabled gods. Thia overcame Zeus and freed the mythical Giants to attack the gods and ancient Titans. All but three of the ancient Titans perished. Meanwhile, the Teen Titans rushed to the rescue of their teammate, Lilith.
The Teen Titans encountered a young girl named Kole, a crystal spinner under the thrall of Thia. The Teen Titans were able to free the Amazons from a crystal prison and defeat Thia's mythological minions. Hyperion (Thia's husband) attacked Thia, sacrificing himself to destroy her, and the two perished together in flames. When the battle ended, Zeus decreed the surviving Titans and Lilith, who was recognized as a demi-goddess, remain in Olympus. Lilith was officially instated as a goddess and remained in Olympus.
Meanwhile, Carl Vesper (son of Thia) learned of his mother's death. He resolved that the Children of the Sun will use their influence to rule the world.

Thia possesses vast godlike powers, including powerful fire-blasts, flight and teleportation, as well as unbelievable strength and durability as well as immortality.

Marv Wolfman, on Thia's absence in New Teen Titans #11-12: "Okay, Thia wasn't there for a story that I should've done by issue #22, and because we got involved in doing the runaways story in those specific months, since it was done in coordination with the National Runaways Association and September and October were crucial months we had to have it printed then. So we had to move, shift all our stories around. I will be doing the Thia story. There is a reason for that. Somebody actually guessed it, though went to the wrong conclusion, they assumed Wonder Girl's mother was Thia. We'll be doing a story about Thia and Wonder Girl very shortly, and it was very important that she not be there for that reason."

New Teen Titans (second series) #7-10 [1985]: After a series of strange manifestations of flames and dreams, Lilith discovers her true origin as the daughter of Thia, renegade member of the legendary Titans (the predecessors of the Olympian gods).
