Tana Moon

Tana's tragic last moments with Superboy -
from SUPERBOY #74.

Shortly after Superboy escaped Project Cadmus and came to Metropolis claiming to be cloned from Superman, he met Tana Moon. Tana was a young fledgling and saw Superboy as her big break; Superboy, meanwhile, saw Tana with the eyes of a 16-year-old boy. The news affiliate WGBS promised Tana a job if she televised stories of Superboy as the new Superman in Metropolis. Tana realized Superboy was the best friend she had despite their age differences and considered Superboy a great kid for providing her big break as a news reporter. After Superboy helped defeat the Cyborg Superman, Tana decided to make a name for herself on her own.

Tana was reunited with Superboy again in Hawaii by chance - and became a full-fledged reporter for KONA TV, once again covering his day-to-day exploits. When Superboy was infected with a plague that was killing all the clones in the world, he returned to Cadmus to save himself from dying. There, Tana declared she cared for him dearly and kissed him. Upon Superboy's return from Cadmus, Tana and Superboy maintained the start of a relationship while Tana continued covering the stories of his exploits.

The relationship was challenging for both of them. First, Tana was a few years Superboy's senior. Second, there was Superboy's wandering eye. And third, Tana's co-workers thought her relationship with Superboy gave her an unfair advantage.
Their initial breakup was due to Superboy falling for the villain known as Knockout. Superboy later came to his senses and the couple resolved their differences. But ultimately, the stress of their relationship caused Tana to leave Superboy and Hawaii.

Tana was later was captured by the rogue agency called the Agenda. Ultimately getting freed by Superman and his freakish genetic friends called the Wild Men, Tana retained a collar in which Agenda agent Amanda Spense rigged with an explosive device. Just as Superboy and Tana were once again ready to restart their relationship anew, Spence activated the collar. Tana was tragically killed.

Rex Leech

Superboy meets Rex and Roxy Leech in ADVENTURES OF SUPERMAN #502.

When Superboy debuted, Rex Leech saw dollar signs. Rex Leech, a conniving get-rich-quick "entrepreneur, " talked Superboy into letting him be his manager. Rex claimed to own the rights to the Superman name, and made Superboy a marketing success as "Superman" until the real one returned from the dead. Feeling obligated to the original man of steel, Superboy gave up all rights to the Superman name and decided to call himself Superboy instead.

When Superboy embarked on a world tour, he decided to stay in Hawaii. Rex remained by Superboy's side, since he viewed the teen hero as his cash cow. A vast array of merchandise - including t-shirts, toys, and even athletic gear - were part of the Superboy franchise. The state of Hawaii at one point advertised visiting Hawaii as "the home of the most well known kid hero in the universe."

Rex had a knack for business but also had a knack for trouble. Because of past unpaid debts, Rex had put his family - namely his daughter, Roxy - in peril at the hands of the master assassin known as Copperhead, and Superboy ended up stopping the killer from hurting Roxy and never refused to believe Rex may have been in part responsible for the attack. Not too long after this, his irritated former business associate got an amnesiac Daxamite later known as M'Onel to battle Superboy toe to toe on television as an event on the black market to see who would kill who first. Both boys barely survived, and yet Superboy never suspected Rex.

After Superboy left Hawaii, Rex also moved on with his life up until his daughter Roxy bonded with a fire elemental called Pyra, which threatened her life. He then found Superboy at Project Cadmus to seek his aid. Superboy - with the help of the Titans - caused Pyra to abandon her human host.

Roxy Leech

Roxy decides to join the police force
in SUPERBOY #17.

Roxy Leech is the daughter of Rex Leech, a conniving get-rich-quick "entrepreneur." She flirted to no end with Superboy and was able to convince the Teen of Steel to be managed by her father. While her father saw Superboy as a meal ticket, Roxy started to develop true feelings for the Kid.

Determined not to follow her father's shady footsteps, Roxy took Superboy's advice and trained to be a police cadet in the Hawaii Special Crimes Unit. This led to Roxy - with the aid of the Hawaiian police force - to aid Superboy in his adventures against various super-powered villains. Roxy found a rival for Superboy's affection in reporter Tana Moon. Soon, Roxy realized Superboy's heart belonged to Tana and his feelings for her were more friendly than romantic. Surprisingly, Roxy and Tana managed to become good friends despite their initial rivalry.

Superboy later developed a genetic disorder that literally unraveled his DNA. The only solution was finding a genetic donor his age for his genetics to repattern. Roxy's DNA sample helped to stabilize Superboy; The result made their genetic patterns so similar they both lost any romantic sparks and now consider each other like family.

After Superboy left Hawaii, Roxy and Rex Leech followed suit. Rex once again found himself in trouble and financial debt. Concocting a plan, Roxy stole the Whiz Wagon from Cadmus to participate in a death-defying race for a huge prize. Ultimately losing the race, Roxy left promising Superboy she'd make up for her mistake.

Roxy ended up bonding with a confused alien girl on the run named Pyra, a fire elemental, which threatened Roxy's life. Her father brought her to Project Cadmus to seek aid. Superboy and the Titans - with the help of researchers from the Project - successfully separated Roxy from the alien entity.

Bibbo's Krypto

Superboy bonds with Krypto in SUPERBOY #16.

The story began in the aftermath of Superman's death. An old lady in Suicide Slum had a dog that delivered a litter of pups she couldn't care for. She decided to throw the pups into the river where they would eventually die. Bibbo, Superman's friend, decided he would rescue the pups and give them the home they deserved. Unfortunately, only one pup survived, the pup Bibbo named "Krypton," after Superman, who was last of his litter too. When Bibbo tried to get a dog tag for his new friend, the dealer only engraved six letters of the name, leading to the dog to be named "Krypto" instead.

After the Fall of Metropolis, the fallen city made Bibbo fear for Krypto's safety, so he entrusted Krypto to Superboy. Unfortunately, the boy and dog were constantly irritated with each other. When Superboy left Hawaii, Krypto stayed with Superboy's friend in Hawaii, Hillary Chang. Upon revisiting, Krypto decided he wanted to stay with Superboy at Cadmus.

When Cadmus was attacked by the Agenda, Krypto helped lead the other freakish animals of Cadmus against the Agenda.
