Titans: Scissors, Paper, Stone

A remote colony of humans have carved a home out of an airless asteroid - but their fragile colony is in danger from a threat they can't see coming!
Jamadagni [Jama] Renuka inherited a genetic trait that allowed her to transform reality. The theory is 'magi' - a rare ability that enables users to alter the very fabric of reality. Jama trained under a Gememage Sensei that taught her how to hone her natural abilities. Jama learns to take existing myths and bring them to life! When her colony is threatened by a demonic creature, Jama seeks to recreate a group of heroes to act as the mythological group of Titans from ancient history.
Jama recreates the mythic pattern of a particular team of heroes - the Titans - to combat a great clysm. She gathers together four superhero archetypes: Raven, Cyborg, Starfire and Robin. Jamadagni [Jama] Renuka acts as the sorceress mage Raven; Gabrielle Marin-Reyes is recruited as the weepy Cyborg; Hikarimono, host to an alien lifeform, plays the token alien role of Starfire; and Alec Swanwick is implanted with a personality construct of an ancient hero to embody the group's masked fighting man - Robin.
Knowing the myth pattern, Jama looks for the summoning of a demon. This takes form in the Xenobilogy lab, where a bio-engineered whale morphs into hideous creatures. Jama completes the myth recreation by assigning the members outlandish codenames and appropriate costumes.
The Titans are successful in defeating the creatures - but at a terrible cost. Gabrielle is badly injured and Alec dies in battle. In all the mythological information, Jama knew "all superhero mythology had one charmingly naive concept: in the end, the good guys never ever lose!" Tragically, this is proven both true and false.

Alec Swanwick is Jama's ex-boyfriend who still harbored feelings for her. When her colony is threatened by a demonic creature, Jama sought to recreate a group of heroes to act as the mythological group of Titans from ancient history.
Recruiting Alec, Jama implanted him with a personality construct of an ancient hero so Alec could act as the 'Robin' of the group. The personality construct Jama used was actually based on Batman [Bruce Wayne].

Dead Pretty Boy
[Hikarimono]
Titan Modeled After: Starfire
Hikarimono is a human host to an alien life form - a sentient creature of pure energy translated into his nervous system shortly after his death. Since entities can only embody fresh-dead corpses, Hikarimono surmises the sentient creature may have killed him. The energy has effected Hikarimono's nervous system, and his speech is stilted; He has trouble using pronouns. Hikarimono later enrolled at a Xenobilogy Lab - to study as well as be studied.
When Jama gathers a group of heroes to act as the mythological group of Titans from ancient history, she recruits Hikarimono. By accessing the dormant lattice energy creatures, Hikarimono can fling energy blasts.

Gabrielle Marin-Reyes lost her original body in the Vismavitra orbit habitat firestorm. Her mother had enough influence with the military police corps to transplant Gabrielle's brain in a top-model prosthesis unit. Her new body is actually a decommissioned combat unit.
When Jama gathers a group of heroes to act as the mythological group of Titans from ancient history, she recruits Gabrielle. Disabling the safety interlock, Jama unleashes Gabrielle's potential as a killer combat unit!

Titans: Scissors, Paper, Stone [1997]: Elseworlds One-shot. This Elseworlds Special introduces a remote colony of humans who have carved a home out of an airless asteroid. Written and penciled by Manga Maestro Adam Warren, this mini-epic features the exploits of four teens who must defend their fragile colony against a threat that only they can see coming. Adopting the Titans names in honor of the legendary Earth heroes, Raven, Cyborg, Nightwing and Starfire stand their ground on a day that may be their last! Originally, this story was to be featured in THE NEW TITANS ANNUAL 1996, a Legends of the Dead Earth tale.

Titans Go Manga With 'Scissors, Paper, Stone'
An article from Wizard #67 [1997]
Manga hits the mainstream this March when DC Comics will release Titans: Scissors, Paper, Stone, an Elseworlds prestige one-shot by Dirty Pair writer/artist Adam Warren.
"I love manga," confessed Teen Titans editor Dan Thorsland. "This project began with plans for a 'Legends of the Dead Earth' Titans annual and my hankering to work with Adam Warren. It seemed natural - he has such a great take on younger characters. This was a project where he could get away with almost anything." Warren was amenable to the idea, come up with a concept and started work. As the first pages came in, the project shifted gears, according to Thorsland. I showed them to [DC Executive Editor] Mike Carlin and he said, 'This is too good to just be an annual; we have to make this a prestige book.' We gave Adam another 10 pages and put it on glossy pages.
The story takes place 6,000 years in the future, as a young woman nomad Jamadogni puts together a team of young heroes to deal with a major crisis, in much the same way Raven pulled together the second set of Titans in the early 1980s. So how will this project be different from a mainstream approach to superhero action? "A lot of what I like about manga is the character design, which you're starting to see in American comics. But another part is the more adventurous approach to storytelling," Warren explained. And Warren pledged that Japanese elements of storytelling will be a part of Scissors, Paper, Stone: "I didn't do anything to make my work more 'American' for this project," he said.
Thorsland agreed: "It's 48 pages of stuff that only Adam Warren could write and illustrate - including action sequences featuring 60-foot monsters and stuff like that. A lot of humor and a lot of torment and angst all mixed up - it's the distilled essence of the Wolfman/Pérez Titans 6,000 years in the future."
Titans: Scissors, Paper, Stone ships March 5 at a cover price of S4.95.

Titans in Generations II

Superman & Batman: Generations II
In the popular SUPERMAN & BATMAN: GENERATIONS miniseries, writer/artist John Byrne (X-Men: The Hidden Years, WONDER WOMAN) introduced readers to an Elseworld where Superman and Batman made their debuts in the years they first appeared in the real world (1938 and '39, respectively), shaping the history of the Earth in thrilling and unexpected ways. A truly generational saga, the story spanned centuries, as both heroes experienced triumphant success and heartbreaking tragedy.
Now, Byrne reenters the world of GENERATIONS to reveal the milestone moments in other DC heroes' careers (during that same period) in the 4-issue Prestige miniseries aptly titled SUPERMAN & BATMAN: GENERATIONS II.
In GENERATIONS II #1, readers witness Hawkman flying into battle alongside the Blackhawks at the height of World War II, with Golden Age versions of Superman, Green Lantern and the Spectre joining the fray. Even as a classic Superman foe is revealed playing a pivotal role in the Nazi onslaught, other forces manifest, as Wonder Woman leaves Paradise Island for the first time and Lois Lane finds herself caught in a fight between Batman and Robin and criminal genius Lex Luthor!
Then the story skips ahead 11 years, as the Justice Society of America and Batman investigate the mysterious "Demon Head" organization; Lois Lane gives birth to Supergirl; Green Lantern Abin Sur meets GL Alan Scott; and Wonder Woman suffers a devastating personal tragedy.
Future issues of GENERATIONS II leapfrog through the decades - spanning into the distant future - as the legacies of Superman and Batman inspire teenaged heroes to form their own super-hero team (the Justice League of America); a romance develops between Batman's successor and the alluring Batgirl; the ghostly Deadman takes Batman into the mind of the Joker; and much, much more!
GENERATIONS II takes DC's greatest heroes through adventures that celebrate every era of super-heroic storytelling. It's a ride not to be missed! SUPERMAN & BATMAN: GENERATIONS II is a 4-issue Elseworlds miniseries in the Prestige Format edited by Mike Carlin. The 48-page issue #1 arrives in comic-book stores August 1 with a cover price of $5.95 U.S.
