Kenner: Batman the Animated Series
Robin Figures [1993-1995]
The majority of new licensing for 1993 revolved around
Batman: The Animated Series on Fox. These figures, based on the animated
characters, were extrememly faithful to their cartoon counterparts.
In the series, the most significant change was the transformation
of the Dick Grayson/Robin character in the "new" 90's costume,
resulting in a hipper more adult representation which the character
has never seen. The Batman character continued to embody the dark image
fans have come to love while maintaining the heroic qualities identified
with the character.
Robin figures included Dick Grayson/Robin, Bola Trap Robin,
Ninja Robin, Robin and Ski-Blast Robin. |

Kenner: The New Batman Adventures
Crime Solver Nightwing [1998 Relaunch]
While 1997's "Batman & Robin" theatrical release
- the fourth film in the popular franchise - enjoyed less-than-spectacular
domestic box office and critical success, Kenner's action figure adaptations
of the Dark Knight Detective are buoyed by strong collector and mass-market
interest.
In 1998, Kenner has no less than four different Batman
segments ready to hit toy shelves, featuring all-new versions of the
Caped Crusader, his crimefighting allies and colorful rogues gallery.
Fueled by all-new episodes of the "The New Batman Adventures"
animated series, seen weekdays and Saturdays in tandem with the new
Superman cartoon series on Kids WB, Kenner reinvigorates its animation-based
segment with the inevitable Bat-variants, these play-enhanced versions
of Batman: Silver Defender Batman, Detective Batman, Jet Wing Batman,
Road Rocket Batman and Undercover Bruce Wayne, all reflecting the new
animated episodes' depiction of Batman.
Joining Batman in his crusade against crime is Kenner's
new Crime Solver Nightwing, Battle Shield Nightwing and Crime Fighter
Robin, a more diminutive, Tim Drake version of the boy wonder. Batman
vs. Two-Face promises a villain for the hero, as does the promised release
of the first Mad Hatter action figure and brand new Wild Card Joker. |
