FUTURE FATES FOR WONDER GIRL?

Other than a handful of Flash covers (to welcome on the new creative team) and some Who's Who illustrations, Pérez's only other work at the moment is on the huge New Teen Titans Graphic Novel, due out in March of 1989.

The story will be 96 pages long, scripted by Marv Wolfman, co-plotted by Wolfman and Pérez, pencilled and inked by Pérez, and colored by Pérez and an undecided-on colorist. Pérez will provide a wraparound cover for the softcover edition, and a separate cover for the hardcover edition. The hardcover edition is tentatively slated to have 16 pages of illustrated text, which will be available nowhere else.

"We're tremendously excited about this Graphic Novel. This will be my first one, and it is really a big one. We're going to answer the question of exactly 'Who Is Wonder Girl?' It will be clear that the New Teen Titans #38 story of 'Who Is Donna Troy?' still happened, but all references to Wonder Woman have been excised." So who rescued Donna from the burning building? Where did she come up with the name and costume of Wonder Girl? And, where did she get her powers?

"We're tying this in to the Titans of old, the predecessors to the Olympian Gods. I'm not going to reveal to much about that, except that the title I want is 'Once A Titan, Always A Titan; referring to both the ancient Titans, and the New Teen Titans. There will be mythology and science-fantasy mixed in to the story."

Pérez reveals that all of the original Teen Titans will be included, with new titan Danny Chase leaving a third of the way through the book to attend school. "All references to Wonder Woman, and a few of the Teen Titans stories will be rendered moot with this book. At the end of it, Donna Troy is (physically) another character. She has a new name and a new costume, but as Donna Troy, she is the same person we have always read about.'

FUTURE FATES FOR GEORGE PÉREZ

Pérez states that the Graphic Novel will probably be his last time working on the Titans. "They've been good to me, and still are, but I need to move on."

Pérez plans to stay on Wonder Woman until at least 1991, which will be her 50th anniversary, although his exclusive contract with DC runs out in 1990. "I do not plan to ever sign another exclusive contract. This one fulfilled its purpose, but there were times I wanted to do work for other companies, and couldn't. I will still probably do the bulk of my work for DC, but at least I will be free to work for Marvel or any of the independents."
