Wizard LA Brings Teen Titans and Outsiders News

Newsarama reports on the DC Panel at WizardWorld LA:

"The Outsiders take on a new Fearsome Five in June Ð although taking on the group puts the group of heroes in a difficult position of defending the FiveÕs intended target Ð LexCorp. Winick's comment about the storyline was slightly ominous - "can anyone save LexCorp?" In discussing the complaints about the previous Outsiders storyline which featured, among other things, demons and an orgy, Winick said that he wanted to put a label on the cover of the upcoming three-issu arc that would read: "Demon & orgy free!"

Raven will continue to be one of the foci of storylines and subplots in Teen Titans. Writer Goeff Johns said that the former Titan, Deula Dent, (the Joker's daughter) would be dealt with in upcoming issues.

Also look for Teen Titans to guest star in an upcoming story arc in Action Comics involving the KINGDOM COME villain, Gog. The Teen Titans will also be appearing in Flash. For the full report click here.

Rumor Mill: Phil Jimenez To Bring Back Donna Troy?

From the March 15th "Lying in the Gutters" by Rich Johnston at comicbookresources.com:

"Phil Jimenez is bringing back Donna Troy, somehow, somewhen. Look for a project featuring the Troia, the late Donna Troy, revived sometime after his "Otherworld" series ends."

New Doom Patrol Means New Origin for Gar Logan

"Gar Logan will be the Donna Troy of this reboot!" according to John Byrne in a chat held March 9th.

On his messageboard, John Byrne has announced that his next project for DC will be a relaunch of Doom Patrol. While Byrne is remaining somewhat tight-lipped about the news the group will include - as will a handful of new, yet unnamed members - apparently, Niles Caulder - the Chief; the Cliff Steel Robotman, Rita Farr - Elasti-Girl; and Larry Trainor - Negative Man. As for the feel of the book, Byrne said that the series' catchphrase is "Together Again for the First Time!" - this given the team's "appearance" in the pages of JLA #94. In regards to an explanation, Byrne related that their JLA appearance is the first time they have appeared openly in the DCU, although Batman knows something about them, and Ray Palmer (the Atom) has a connection with them. For the full story at Newsarama, click here.

Of course, a rebooted Doom Patrol mean huge implications for the Titans. A total revise of Gar's history [which explains plans to tell his origin in a few issues] And now we need to re-think every encounter with Steve Dayton and Mento, the Hybrid, Madame Rogue and her 'daughter' Gemini, the Crimelord... Bring on the Advil.

"Winner Take All" Episode Details and Preview Images

Animation Insider has been provided some information on the episode, "Winner Take All," which airs March 6th. This is the first animated appearance of Speedy, Joto and Wildebeest.... all characters from the Teen Titans comics. Look for Speedy [described by creators as "Robin with a bow"] to have a one-on-one battle with Robin. Joto is renamed Hot Spot for the series. And Wildebeest will be a combination of the various versions of Wildebeest in the comics; He will be a teenager though, unlike the 'Baby' Wildebeest character that was a Titan.

The episode is written by Dwayne McDuffie ["Fear Itself"]. This is Dwayne's second Teen Titans script. It was originally called "It's How You Play The Game" but it was retitled "Winner Take All."

Aqualad's voice will be reprised by Wil Weaton and Speedy will be voiced by Mike Erwin [Mike played the Teenage Bruce Banner in the 2003 movie, "HULK," based on the comic book character; He also has a recurring role as Colin Hart in WB's "Everwood"]

For preview images of this long-awaited episode, click here

Here's the official logline: ROBIN, CYBORG, and BEAST BOY are transported to an alternate dimension. There, the mysterious MASTER OF GAMES invites our heroes and five other superpowered teens (AQUALAD, SPEEDY, GIZMO, JOTO, and WILDEBEEST) to participate in a friendly competition: THE TOURNAMENT OF HEROES. As the contest rages on, Robin becomes more and more determined to win -- while Cyborg becomes more and more worried about what happens to the losers after they disappear. Will Robin realize that winning isn't everything before he loses the only thing that matters: his friends?

This is the first time Glen and Sam have spoken so extensively on bringing the TEEN TITANS comic books to TV.

"Drawing Inspiration: An Interview with Glen Murakami": Glen Murakami - Producer, Teen Titans - in perhaps his most comprehensive TEEN TITANS interview ever. "Bringing Titans to TV: An Interview with Sam Register": As senior vice president, original animation for Cartoon Network, Sam Register is responsible for overseeing development and production of original, action-oriented animated programming for the 24-hour cable service. His current projects include Star Wars: Clone Wars animated shorts, Duck Dodgers and of course, Teen Titans. Sam talks about his excitement in bringing Teen Titans to TV - and offers some hints about what to expect in seasons three and four - and beyond.

Marv Wolfman writes an episode for Season Three TEEN TITANS

Marv Wolfman wrote the season one episode, "Deep Six", which introduced Aqualad. Marv is returning to pen a script in season three.

In Marv's weblog: Today's Views at his website, he talked about his current projects. Check out his site to see what he's up to. "Today's Views is an irregular weblog updated when there are new fun things to report. Keep checking in. "

Here's what he said about the new script: "I'm starting work on an outline for the new episode of the TEEN TITANS animated series, season three. I can't say anything specific about it, but I think the story David Slack, the Titans' story-editor and I hashed out has the potential to be really fun. While I was at Warner's, I also picked up my Titans crew jacket (way cool) and learned that the Titans is the Cartoon Network's number one rated show. Could I be more proud?

CASTING CALL: Geoff Johns gives you his perspective on who should star in a Teen Titans movie

Geoff Johns knows comics. And he knows Hollywood. So who better to give his take on the perfect cast for a "Teen Titans" movie. Wizard turned to the writer of the Teen Titans comic for what we think is the next great untapped DC property headed to the silver screen. We gave Johns a $100 million budget and his own casting couch. As part of Wizard's massive movie event in issue #150 (onsale in comic shops Feb. 25), Johns will provide his perspective on who should star as Robin, Superboy, Wonder Girl, Beast Boy, Cyborg, Kid Flash and Starfire. But as a little taste to get you excited, check out this wizarduniverse.com exclusive for who Johns selects to round out the Teen Titans' universe, villains included. For Geoff's picks, click here.

New Teen Titans Animated Page Updated

In 1983, Hanna-Barbera was developing a New Teen Titans cartoon series. The series would have featured Wonder Girl, Raven, Starfire, Cyborg, Changeling and Kid Flash. Robin would not be in the series, presumably because he was busy as a member of the Super Friends. Wonder Girl would be leader in the series and villains would include Trigon and Blackfire.

The New Teen Titans Animated page has been updated. A rare cel from the anti-drug commercial and the original series model sheet are now viewable as larger images.

The Return of Hawk & Dove

When last seen in JSA, Dove went in search for her 'Hawk.' In Wizard #139, Geoff Johns said: "Raven will appear towards the end of the first year She's different from the other Titans, more of a rebel," notes Johns. "Also,be on the lookout for other familiar faces, including Captain Marvel Jr., Hawk and Dove, a shocking Ômilestone' DC character.. .and that's just the beginning!"

Titans fans should check out the Teen Titans Message Board at geoffjohns.com. A recent thread assured that Hawk & Dove are on track for TEEN TITANS' second year: "Yep, Hawk and Dove will be in Titans Year 2 sometime," Johns said in a thread titled "Are there still plans for Hawk and Dove in TT?" dated January 26th.

Perhaps the return of the classic duo will coincide with their animated debut on an episode of JUSTICE LEAGUE's third season on Cartoon Network; The original odd couple brothers are slated to appear in the upcoming season.

Who is Rose Wilson?

Seems to be the question of the week. Rose is Slade's estranged daughter from a tryst with former Oriental Clan Princess, Lillian "Sweet Lili" Worth. Slade did not learn Rose was his daughter until she was 14 years old. Their relationship has always been a turbulent one.

Rose first appeared in DEATHSTROKE #15 in 1992, where Wintergreen suspected she may be Slade's daughter. Rose next appeared in DEATHSTROKE #42-48 in the HUNTED storyline. During that story, her mother was seemingly killed by the third Ravager and she learned Slade was her father. Rose was placed in protective custody with the Titans and became a member in NEW TITANS #122-126. Rose tested positive for the meta-gene and had an extensive precognitive dream in DEATHSTROKE #51 [no mention of her powers has been made since then]. In DEATHSTROKE #55, she left the Titans and embarked on her own. She next appeared in JLA/Titans #1-3 and later became Lian Harper's nanny in TITANS #25-50.

There seems to be some confusion about Rose's age. Rose is established as 14 years old in DEATHSTROKE ANNUAL #4 in 1995. That places her at about the same age as Cassie Sandsmark. Because of her independent nature [and her more mature appearance in the recent TITANS series], many people thought she was older than that.

For Rose's full story, check out the Rose Wilson page here at titanstower.com.

Wizard #148 - on sale now - offers various previews on what's coming in 2004. Be sure to pick it up!

Teen Titans Characters Get DC Direct Treatment in 2004

From Toyfare #78, February 2004 in an interview "Direct Connect" by Tom Root: Toyfare dials up DC Direct head honcho Georg Brewer

Toyfare: One of the things fans are grooving on right now is the new Teen Titans comic book. I assume the new toy line is in response to that?

Brewer: Absolutely. The first wave is Robin, Wonder Girl, Deathstroke - who I think will make everybody happy - and Blackflre, Starfire's sister. The second wave will be Superboy, who's already sculpted and looks kick-ass; Impulse in his Kid Flash costume; Brother Blood and the new Trickster.

Toyfare: We hear there's also going to be a second wave of First Appearances figures.

Brewer: It's going to be Superman, Robin, Hawkman and Green Lantern, and I'm really excited to do the Superman First Appearance. It's going to be the most different Superman figure ever done.

Nightwing Action Figure in January 2004

From Toyfare #78, February 2004 in an article "Year of the Bat" by Keith Chow

"Underworld" will be the theme for the core line of Bat figures to hit in January. Featuring villain Killer Croc, this first wave will consist of 12 figures including new Croc-hunting versions of Nightwing, Robin, Batman and even Bruce Wayne, and 11 more figures are due for the fall quarter. [click here to see Jim Lee's sketch for the figure design.]

But the biggest development on the Mattel front will be the creation of an all-new figure line based on an upcoming cartoon being developed by Warner Brothers. "You'll see a brand new segment of [animated] Batman figures, vehicles and accessories," promised Joe Kavanagh, product manager for Batman at Mattel. Expect the cartoon-based toys to be distinctly different from Mattel's "core" line; they promise that every new line - based on comic, cartoon or movie - will have its own style."

And nobody has more style then the Four Horsemen, the tiber-sculptors responsible for most of Batman's 2003 lineup; they'll be back designing more of 2004's Batman product. Also, look for Mattel to take a cue from Toy Biz's Marvel Legends line and pack their figures with some four-color premiums.

Speedy, Wildebeest and Joto Guest Star in Season Two Episode

In an upcoming episode of the TEEN TITANS animated series, The mysterious Master of Games transports the Titans to an alternate dimension, where they battle other super-powered youths - including Aqualad, Speedy, Gizmo, Joto and Wildebeest. The teens are pitted against each other as Robin becomes more and more determined to win. But at what cost?

This is the first animated appearance of Speedy, Joto and Wildebeest.... all characters from the Teen Titans comics. Wildebeest will be a teenager, though, unlike the 'Baby Wildebeest' character in the comics.

Marv Wolfman on Updating GAMES

courtesy of http://www.silverbulletcomicbooks.com/wolfman/

Marv writes: "The news that George Pérez and I are finishing "Games," The New Teen Titans graphic novel we began about 15 years ago broke last week at the Texas Wizardcon and I thought I'd give some background to it. The story is on my website, http://www.marvwolfman.com, so I won't repeat what I said there, but I still wanted to talk about it. So here goes."

Full the full article, check out Marv's weekly What Th-? column at silverbulletcomics.com. Also check out Marv's own site for the latest on GAMES.

Marv Wolfman Adds Titans Content to Webpage

Marv has added two Titans sections to his website:

The Origin of the Teen Titans: It began in 1980 when editor Len Wein and I first approached DC COMICS Publisher, Jenette Kahn, to revive an old DC title called The Teen Titans. There had already been two different versions of the book with the original dating back to the early 60s. For the full article, click here.

Games Play: The story of "GAMES," the NEW TEEN TITANS graphic novel that almost never was, goes back to sometime between 1986 and 1989. After spending my entire life in New York, I had relocated to Los Angeles, not to break into movies or TV, but to get away from the harsh New York weather. I was writing a number of comics including The New Teen Titans which I had co-created in 1980 with extraordinary artist and fellow co-conspirator, George Pérez. For the full article, click here.

Marv Wolfman Clarifies Future Project

I wanted to send this quick note to Titans Tower to clarify what is probably a confusing point. As you now know, DC, George and I will be finishing the Titans "Games" graphic novel that we began in 1989. When I discussed working on a DC Comics novel in my What Th--? column, many folk, including the guys at Titans Tower, assumed I was referring to "Games," and I sent a letter letting everyone know that I was not. Let me assure you that is the truth. Were I referring to "Games" I would have said I was working on a graphic novel. I said novel. I can't at this time reveal what the novel is - DC asked me not to as they prefer breaking news themselves - but it is a prose novel of about 80,000 words, and it's based on one of my DC projects.

I'm in the early outlining stages now and when it's ready to be announced, DC will issue its press release and I'll talk about it on my website, www.marvwolfman.com. Thanks for understanding that, despite the "Games" announcement, I wasn't being coy or lying to you guys. I really was talking about something else altogether.

TEEN TITANS Renewed Through It's Fourth Season

Marv Wolfman, who wrote the TEEN TITANS comic book for 16 years, recapped his history writing the popular comic book. You can read the whole article by clicking here.

Marv mentions the TEEN TITANS cartoon has been ordered for 4 full seasons! "The Titans have also become a major animated series appearing on both The Cartoon Network and The WB. It seems to be a hit and has been renewed through its fourth season."

This makes sense if they plan to eventually strip for daily airings. Each season is presumably comprised of 13 episodes. That would make 52 episodes total for a four-season renewal. This is great news, because it means that the creative staff can plan on spreading out the introduction of new chaaracters and story arcs. It's Official: DC Announces GAMES - George and Marv Return to Titans!

item courtesy of http://www.comicon.com/pulse/

The much anticipated sixteen year old New Teen Titans graphic novel that was half complete by Marv Wolfman and George Pérez is finally going to be released. When people learned that the George Pérez/Marv Wolfman New Teen Titans graphic novel from 1987 was not going to be completed due to Pérez suffering a creative block, some Titans fans were crushed. Off and on through the years, Wolfman and Pérez would mention the unfinished project, never going into too many details, but always with the sentiment hoping it would be finished someday. That day appears to be December 2004. The graphic novel features the original New Teen Titans team as well as Jericho and Danny Chase.

item courtesy of http://newsarama.com

Completing George Pérez's duo of flashback projects, DC will publish his and Marv Wolfman's New Teen Titans Graphic Novel which originally began production in 1988. Pérez had over 70 of the pages draw before the plug was pulled, and the final page count of the GN should run in the 120 page range. Set in the era of the "classic" Wolfman/Pérez Titans, the OGN will include a new framing sequence by Wolfman and Pérez that will allow the story to stand in current continuity.

His run with series scribe Geoff Johns begins in February, which also kicks off an upcoming six issue story arc called Flashback. The story features Jay Garrick and Bart Allen a.k.a. Kid Flash (the artist formerly known as Impulse) on a quest to find out just who the man in the Flash costume is. The arc also features covers by Michael Turner.

Marv Clarifies DC Graphic Novel Project

In Marv's "What The-?" column at silverbullets.com [November 2nd], he spoke of a project for DC Comics. Pérez is currently re-teaming with Marv Wolfman on their unfinished 120-page graphic novel, The New Teen Titans: Games, started in 1989. Pérez had finished nearly 80 pages of Games before over-commitment to new projects forced the artist to put it on the back burner. Marv Hints at Graphic Novel for DC: Could This be GAMES?

courtesy of Marv's "What The-?" column at silverbullets.com, November 2nd

Could this be concerning the unfinished Titans Graphic Novel, GAMES? Marv says: "At any rate, that is how my past few weeks have been spent. I'm back home now, watching a literal ton of DVDs while I push past a bad case of jetlag, turning out a few plots and by the time you read this, hard at work on a novel. I can't tell you the subject quite yet - DC prefers to do their own publicity - but this is something I've been looking forward to writing for almost two decades. I've also been told about another major assignment I can't yet talk about, but I can guarantee some people will be very happy when DC breaks the news (am I riding a very fine line here or what?)." for the full article click here

Teen Titans Sales Gains

Teen Titans however, appears to have taken a modest bump up in sales to retailers for September, compared to Augus's estimates, gaining roughly 6,000 copies. If the estimates can be trusted, this wouldn't be surprising; given the sell-outs the book has seen with its first three issues, which indicates that demand was outstripping supply.

Phil Jimenez Hints at Donna Troy's Return

from the article: [click on the link for the full story]
CHANGING THE WORLD: PHIL JIMENEZ TALKS 'OTHERWORLD' & 'NEW X-MEN'
by Arune Singh, Staff Writer Posted: September 29, 2003

Besides "Otherworld," Jimenez has more stuff coming up in the next year. "I'm doing some artwork for 'Superman #200,' I've got the eight page eulogy for Donna Troy coming up in 'Titans/Outsiders Secret' and other stuff, though 'Otherworld' will consume me for most of next year. My hope is to work on something with Geoff Johns and I'm hoping to work on something [pause] Titans related with him. That would be a very happy thing."

And would that happen to be Donna Troy related, since she is his favorite Teen Titan? "That just might be," laughs Jimenez. "But it's all about Geoff's schedule at this point! But I sure hope so!" Being such an unspoken fan, even having produced a "Donna Troy" one-shot some years back, CBR News though it apt to ask Jimenez about his feelings on the "death" of Donna in "Titans/Young Justice: Graduation Day #3." "Quote un quote is perfect for it. I sort of knew of it for a long, long time and knew that it was a corporate driven death to get the characters of Outsiders and Titans to a place they need to be, figuring the character would at some point come back. That was sort of it. I sort of loved her actual death scene. I was just talking to Jim Lee about it and he sort of wanted her to go out in more of an Amazon blaze of glory, but I thought the suddenness of the moment was pretty powerful. But y'know - they killed off Donna Troy. [laughs]. You can only be so forgiving about that I guess. [laughs]"

Then there's the "Teen Titans" cartoon and Jimenez says he's a fan of that, too. "I love that cartoon. I think it's amazing. I think one of my strength's is contextualizing this kind of stuff whereas some people will say 'Raven didn't look that in the comic books.' But this isn't the comic books. It's the cartoon. They're adapting the material and turning it into something else. Is that something else a success? I think it is."

[...] "Expect to see me involved mid to late next year on a book featuring the return of Donna Troy. Or die trying!"

DC DIRECT CURRENTS TALKS TO GEOFF JOHNS

The heroes of the JLA have returned to check in on their young wards in TEEN TITANS #6, written by fan-favorite Geoff Johns (THE FLASH) with art and a cover by Mike McKone and Marlo Alquiza! But what do Superman, Batman and Wonder Woman have in mind for the fledgling super-team? DIRECT CURRENTS turned to Johns to find out!

Tell us a little about what happens in TEEN TITANS #6.
Wonder Woman isn't too thrilled about Wonder Girl being in the Titans, Starfire isn't too thrilled about Wonder Woman, and Superman's trying to keep his promise of making sure the JLA doesn't interfere with the Titans' business.

Is there a villain in this issue?
That depends on your point of view. In Starfire's eyes, there sure is. What does this story lead into? We'll be setting the groundwork for the next storyline, "New Blood," featuring the return of Raven and the introduction of the new Brother Blood. Think Damien from The Omen at 15 years old, mixed with a little Ra's Al Ghul and Charles Manson. Also, we've got Deathstroke on a hunt of his own because one of the Titans has something very special to him. Really though, this issue will be an intense emotional and physical battle all its own. Don't expect an easy wrap-up here...

What do you like about working on TEEN TITANS?
The single best thing about this book is working with Mike McKone. He's an absolutely amazing artist and his passion for TEEN TITANS is evident in every panel he draws. It's also an absolute thrill to be working with DC icons like Robin and the rest of the Titans. I've always loved the younger heroes and I feel very fortunate to have been brought aboard as part of this team.

TEEN TITANS is an ongoing series edited by Eddie Berganza. The 32-page issue #6 arrives in comic-book stores December 10 with a cover price of $2.50 U.S.

TEEN TITANS #6
Written by Geoff Johns; art and cover by Mike McKone and Marlo Alquiza The JLA has promised to keep out of the Teen Titans' business - but promises are made to be broken. Much like arms, according to Starfire! For more information, see the feature article. December 10 :: 32 pages :: $2.50

DC DIRECT CURRENTS TALKS TO JUDD WINICK

Get ready for the fight you never thought you'd see! It's Metamorpho vs.ÉMetamorpho!? The tussle goes down in OUTSIDERS #7, written by Judd Winick with art by Tom Raney and Scott Hanna and a cover by Raney. But which Metamorpho is real? And how will Nightwing and the Outsiders react to seeing their teammate's duplicate? DIRECT CURRENTS went to Winick for some answers!

Tell us a little about what happens in OUTSIDERS #7.
Of all the issues of OUTSIDERS, this is the one I can tell you the least about. It's a very big revelation issue centering around Metamorpho. Many folks have been asking questions about our boy Meta, like, "Didn't he come back to life last year?" and " Didn't we see him in BIRDS OF PREY?" and "Why is he wearing blue jeans all the time?" All these questions shall be answeredÉexcept the one about the blue jeans. We'll also get a glimpse of our brand-new super-villain. Well, not new - actually an old, obscure one from SHAZAM!

What kind of repercussions will the events of this issue have on the team?
Huge. Mostly for Metamorpho. I can say with complete and absolute confidence that his life will never ever be the same.

What do you have planned for the Outsiders?
Big honking trouble! Issues #8,9 and 10 have several battles. One of our Outsiders gets seriously hurt. Black Lightning shows up to pull his daughter Thunder off the team, but ends up fighting by their side. And that's just the next story arc! Overall we'll be building to a rather climactic arc that brings together the entire run thus far.

If you could be any Outsider, who would it be?
Grace. I've always wanted to be a tall Asian chick.

OUTSIDERS is an ongoing series edited by Eddie Berganza. The 32-page issue #7 arrives in comic-book stores December 17 with a cover price of $2.50 U.S.

OUTSIDERS #7
Written by Judd Winick; art by Tom Raney and Scott Hanna; cover by Raney It's not double vision - there really are two Metamorphos! But which one's real? He's the one who plans to absorb the fake! Meanwhile, meet Timothy Karnes - a once and future villain called Sabbac. Chances are he's not coming for tea! For more information, see the feature article. December 17 :: 32 pages :: $2.50

Marv Wolfman on DEEP SIX

Marv Wolfman talks about his thoughts on DEEP SIX, from http://www.marvwolfman.com:

"Deep Six," my episode of the Teen Titans animated show, aired tonight and, guest-starring Aqualad, it looks pretty decent. It is, obviously, very strange for me to watch this show because it bears so little resemblance to the comic I did for sixteen years, yet, beneath the anime facade the characters, taken to very cartoony extremes, are actually emotionally similar to the originals. SPOILER WARNING! The concept of the episode was handed to me - Trident, who bears absolutely no similarity to the original I did way back when (three 'super' thieves who the Titans believe is actually one man) is now an underwater monster of some sort who is cloning himself. Still, I find myself laughing at the Raven/Changeling (oops, Beast Boy) exchanges and the Starfire na·vet?, though I could do without Cyborg's Boolyahh exclamations.

It is always strange to see your own stuff on the screen, though generally I've liked what they've done with my creations. Blade has been quite good, and very much Blade. Bullseye was wonderful, the very best thing about the Daredevil movie. Cat Grant on "Lois And Clark" was letter perfect, and the various actors who have played Professor Hamilton have all done a good job. In terms of cartoons, I've seen Nova, Black Cat and many of my other characters appear here and there, and none of them are too embarrassing. The Titans strays the farthest from what I did, but because it has its own internal logic and is true to itself, I can deal with it. What I don't like is when folk try to do what George and I did but miss. I'd much rather see a complete re-interpretation than a bad xerox. if you haven't seen the Titans animated show on Cartoon Network, and if you can put aside the obvious anime changes, you might find yourself smiling at it. It's weird, but cute.

Silver-Age Bat-Girl Figure Coming

"Old school Bat-fans can also revel in the knowledge that a Silver Age Batwoman and Bat-Girl two-pack is in store for November of 2004. This is the Batwoman of the "utility purse" and the Bat-Girl that later became Flamebird of The Titans. Brewer notes that a special accessory is in development for the set, and it shall either be (are you ready for this?) Bat-Mite or Ace the Bat-Hound."

Nightwing Figure Possible for HUSH Wave 2

"For the immediate future, Batman fans can look forward to an embarrassment of riches from DC Direct. Sculptor Tim Bruckner has fashioned a stunning line based on the "Hush" storyline by Jeph Loeb and Jim Lee, and more specifically, on the art of Lee. Streeting in April of '04, the first five figures include Batman, Poison Ivy, The Joker, The Huntress and Hush (bandaged/trenchcoat look). Though the second set of five is still in question, sources indicate that they likely include Catwoman, Harley Quinn, Robin, Nightwing and Superman."

Teen Titans & Outsiders news from WizardWorld Chicago

OUTSIDERS: Writer Judd Winick said the second story arc will begin a month after the first. The team members feel like "repo-men for super nerds" until Brother Blood shows up. "That sets the tone for the series," Winick said. "This is a super-hero book and they'll be going after guys in costumes." Chris Cross is drawing the second arc, and Tom Raney will return with Outsiders #7. Winick said that he will be "diving into a very obscure Captain Marvel villain" and that Black Lightning will appear in Outsiders #9-10.

TEEN TITANS: Writer Geoff Johns said that Brother Blood will appear here, too. Also: Raven will return and there will be a crossover with another super-group.

TEEN TITANS & OUTSIDERS TALK - WINICK AND JOHNS @ SDCC

courtesy of http://www.newsarama.com
MattBrady Administrator logged 07.19.03

At Friday morning's panel featuring Judd Winick and Geoff Johns, the two revealed some further details about their respective teams (Outsiders, Titans) and drew some very clear lines between the two that will be played out upon in future issues.

Items of note included:
>> Brother Blood will appear in both titles, first in Outsiders, and then in Titans.
>> It will be revealed that Arsenal has a confidential informant, a "deep throat" character who has been informing him of the locations and whereabouts of specific villains. This informant will point the team to Brother Blood.
>> Arsenal's daughter, Lian, will return in issue #11.
>> Black Lighting will appear in costume and fighting in Outsiders #8 - #9.
>> Also in regards to Outsiders villains, it will be revealed that there was someone behind Grodd and his attack on New York City in issues #1 and #2.
>> In Teen Titans #3, the new team looks at it's legacy, particularly its rather lethal legacy, allowing the characters to wonder why being on the Teen Titans has meant death for so many.
>> Issue #6 of the Teen Titans will feature a JLA appearance [and Nightwing].
>> The upcoming co-written story in Teen Titans/Outsiders Secret Files is set between Graduation Day #3 and Outsiders#1/Teen Titans #1, and explains how who went where.
>> When asked about the possibility to a crossover, perhaps one that would herald the return of Terra and Geo-Force to the respective teams, both Johns and Winick played coy, but didn't dismiss the idea outright.

TEEN TITANS Sell-Out Special

Nine days before its on-sale date of July 16, TEEN TITANS #1 (MAY030201) has sold out at DC Comics. This makes four sold-out debut issues for DC in under three weeks.

"I couldn't be happier that the excitement for TEEN TITANS has grown so much, so fast," says writer Geoff Johns. "Mike McKone, Marlo Alquiza, Jeromy Cox, Eddie Berganza and everyone else involved have been pouring their passion into this book for months now and I can't wait for readers to see the results."

"The momentum that began with TEEN TITANS/YOUNG JUSTICE: GRADUATION DAY continues to build with this very early sell-out," says Bob Wayne, DC's VP - Sales & Marketing. "It's a strong indicator of reader enthusiasm for the series, so retailers should increase their orders on both TEEN TITANS and the TEEN TITANS/YOUNG JUSTICE: GRADUATION DAY COMPENDIUM."

DC has no plans to go back to press on TEEN TITANS #1 at this time. Upcoming issues of TEEN TITANS are available as follows: * TEEN TITANS #2 (JUN030201) is solicited in the June Previews (Volume XIII #6) and is scheduled to be in stores on August 13. * TEEN TITANS # (JUL030211) is solicited in the July Previews (Volume XIII #7) and is scheduled to be in stores on September 10. In addition, the TEEN TITANS/YOUNG JUSTICE: GRADUATION DAY COMPENDIUM (MAR035194) has been rush-solicited and is scheduled to be in stores on July 30. The COMPENDIUM collects TEEN TITANS/YOUNG JUSTICE: GRADUATION DAY #1-3 with eight story pages each from the sold-out TEEN TITANS #1 and OUTSIDERS #1.

TEEN TITANS Animated villains

courtesy of the http://www.comicscontinuum.com

The series premiere of Cartoon Network's Teen Titans, "Final Exam," will give viewers their first look at four villains. The main villains in the episode are Gizmo, Mammoth and Jinx, members of Hive Academy who are trying to make an impression on Slade by taking out the Titans. Lauren Tom does the voices of Jinx and Gizmo, Kevin Michael Richardson does the voice of Mammoth and Ron Perlman does the voice of Slade. Andrea Romano, the show's voice director, provides the voice of Hive Academy's headmistress. "Final Exam," which airs on Saturday, July 19, is written by Rob Hoegee and is directed by Michael Chang.

Teen Titans' second episode, "Sisters," deals with Starfire's sister, Blackfire, who seems to click with all the Titans better than she does but possesses a secret of which they are unaware. "Sisters" is written by Amy Wolfram and is directed by Alex Soto. Hynden Walch, who does the voice of Starfire, also provides the voice of Blackfire. Rino Romano, who starred in Spider-Man Unlimited, provides a guest voice. Click on the image at the top of this story for a larger image from "Sisters."

Titans News at Wizard World East Comic Convention

for a comprehensive report, see http://www.newsarama.com

>> With the move of Rick Leonardi to Batgirl, Patrick Zircher will step up to the penciling duties on Nightwing.

>> Writer Geoff Johns, who is notorious for keeping storylines secret, would only say that the upcoming 200th issue of Flash would be amazing. He said he is really taking a risk with a new direction, but would not elaborate; He also would not elaborate on the identity of the man running on the cover to FLASH #201.

>> Bill Willingham, writer of Fables from DC/Vertigo, is taking over solo adventures of Robin with issue #121. Rick Mays will push the pencils.

>> Superman editor Eddie Berganza talked Supergirls in a Superman panel. He and Supergirl editor Mike McAvennie said there was discussion about keeping the original Supergirl (Kara) that Peter David brought back in the last few issues of Supergirl. Bottom line was that they felt it was best too let both versions of Supergirl fade away at the end of the series to allow the new version currently seen in Superman comics a chance to flourish.

>> Keith Giffen wanted to open his new Lobo Unbound series with a vision of the Young Justice teenage Lobo "roasting on a spit," but was overturned by DC. He said the real storyline is even more disgusting.

Phil Jimenez Writes Donna Troy Tale?

posted May 16, 2003

COTTON: Other than New X-Men, which you're on right up until the end of 2003, what else do you have planned?

JIMENEZ: I'm working on X-Men. I'm working on Otherworld. I'm doing a little eight-page story for Donna Troy's eulogy. And I'm trying to develop two other projects but they're very slow going. One's with DC's international heroes, which the proposal been submitted, the bible's done and the characters have been designed. We're just waiting. And then another project-well, there are two that have been pitched around-one of which is an untold tale of Donna Troy and Wonder Woman. It's a story I don't know why we haven't told. We're going to see if we can do it at some point. I'm got such great contentioness, because I really have drawn just about everyone I've wanted to do. Oh, there is one more story I want to do-a Batman, Superman, Wonder Woman story.

Geoff Johns Talks Teen Titans with Newsarama

"The basic concept - where do teenage heroes go to on the weekends to unwind, train and have fun? Titans Tower in San Francisco." Always a fan of the series and characters, being offered the chance to handle the writing chores on the book kicked Johns into hyperdrive, he says. "I've been a fan of the characters for quite some time," Johns said. "When I was approached last year about taking on the Teen Titans my brain kicked into overdrive. I already had a few fairly major ideas I had always wanted to do with some of the characters, and the rest fell into place pretty quickly. The line-up, the direction, the goals for the book. The scenarios to put them in. I don't shy away from super-heroes and I immediately felt ready to tackle the Titans head-on."

TEEN TITANS preview

Most kids fight to party on the weekends - they fight to save lives!

What do teenage super-heroes do on the weekends? They hang with the Teen Titans! TEEN TITANS, a new monthly series written by fan-favorite scribe Geoff Johns (JSA, The Flash), marks penciller Mike McKone's (Superman, Exiles) first regular series for DC and features inks by Marlo Alquiza (Action Comics, The Tenth). The team of McKone & Alquiza provides one cover, while Fathom's Michael Turner provides a second cover! The series kicks off with an extra-sized first issue at no extra cost, as Superboy, Wonder Girl, Robin, and Impulse jump back into the super-team business!

These teen heroes have gone through some tough times, losing friends in battle and seeing their teams splintered. But they're resilient - and they're out to prove that the DC Universe ain't just a teenage wasteland! As the series begins, Superboy, Wonder Girl, Robin, and Impulse seek advice from their mentors, and each is inspired to come together under the "leadership" of Starfire, Beast Boy, and Cyborg - founding members of the original New Teen Titans. But these kids aren't used to taking orders - and the older Titans aren't used to giving them!

Don't miss the dawn of a new era for the Teen Titans, guest-starring Superman, Batman, and both The Flash and Jay Garrick, the Golden Age Flash! This project is supported by house and trade ads, a full-color poster, a preview in Wizard #141, and a mini-site at www.dccomics.com. TEEN TITANS is an ongoing series edited by Eddie Berganza. The 40-page issue #1 arrives in comic-book stores July 16 with a cover price of $2.50 U.S.

Geoff Johns on TEEN TITANS

from "5 Questions With Geoff Johns"
Monday, April 14
From Wizarduniverse.com

1. What kind of research did you do before you took on Teen Titans? Did you have to become a Mallrat for a few months to study up on how kids act?

No, not really. All I did really was I basically went back and read the first couple of years of the Marv Wolfman and George Pérez run on Titans. I'd already read every issue of Superboy, Impulse and Robin, so I had them pretty much nailed. And then I just went back and read the Titans sourcebook. Other than a lot of reading, I just thought a lot about what it was like in high school for me, and then I started writing. I was already really familiar with Titans, so really it was just a case of refreshing myself and seeing where the Titans came from originally and what the team should be about.

Exclusive Teen Titans Live-Action Movie News!
Wednesday, April 9, 2003 9:57 CDT
from http://www.superherohype.com

We broke the news six months before Cartoon Network and Kids' WB! made the official announcement that a Teen Titans animated series was coming, now we have the exclusive first word that a writer is on board a live-action film in development as well.

We're hearing that the screenwriter on the feature film, produced by Akiva Goldsman, is Brad Fulmer, who was an assistant to "The X-Files" creator Chris Carter. Fulmer is said to be on his second draft of the script and it is unclear which Teen Titans teammates may be included in the story.

DC Comics' "Teen Titans" made their comic book debut in 1964 and soon grew into its own monthly comic book series that ran for many years. It had different incarnations such as "The New Teen Titans" in the '80s and "The New Titans" in the '90s. Characters have included Robin, Aqualad, Kid Flash, Wonder Girl, Raven, Changling, Cyborg and Starfire.

The animates series will debut on Cartoon Network and Kids' WB! this August.

DC HORIZON Features Preview of The Titans/Young Justice: Graduation Day in March

This February, DC Comics plans to unveil a new monthly publication, designed to give fans and retailers a preview of upcoming comics and related materials. This free, eight-page handout, entitled Horizon, will offer a look at various future projects from the DC Universe, Vertigo, and Wildstorm, among others.

Horizon #1, scheduled to ship Wednesday, February 5, 2003, will feature covers and several pages of interior art for two new Vertigo projects. The first is entitled Orbiter, a graphic novel written by Warren Ellis and illustrated by Colleen Doran. The second is Beware the Creeper, a five-issue mini-series written by Jason Hall, with art by Cliff Chiang. Look for both titles to debut in stores this April. Matt Keller - manager of marketing services - said, "We designed Horizon based on feedback from retailers who told us how much they wanted a handout for their customers that included actual comics pages. Horizon gives us the flexibility to feature titles from any imprint, and we're scheduling it to reach stores well before orders on the projects are due."

Horizon #2, scheduled to ship this March, will highlight JSA: All-Stars and The Titans/Young Justice: Graduation Day, two new projects set in the DCU.

TEEN TITANS Elseworlds Still On Track

courtesy of http://www.jaystephens.com/stephens.html

At last summer's Comic-Con International San Diego, DC Comics announced original Teen Titans writer Bob Haney would make a return to the DC property he helped put on the map with a brand new Elseworld's Teen Titans project.

This project has been in the works for over a year.

From the Jay Stephens website: "TEEN TITANS: ELSEWORLDS! Jay Stephens has completed pencilling this 48 page flashback to the '60's, written by original TITANS creator (and bona fide groove-scribe!) BOB HANEY! Oh, yeah... inks by deadly Doc Allred, too! Comin' soon from DC Comics, of course!"

I asked Jay when we might see this project, and he replied: "Mike Allred is wrapping up inks in his spare time as we speak (I've seen the first half finished), and expects to be done by the end of next month. DC will likely solicit the book once they have those final pages in hand. I really can't predict when that might be."

New Geoff Johns Interview

from comicsxtreme.com:
"I absolutely love Superboy. Love Wonder Girl and Cyborg. The character I think will be the most challenging is Robin. Because he has his own book I've got to give him an entirely new character arc within Titans. It's easy to look at Robin and say "He's the smartest Titan there. He'll be the guy that always comes up with the plan." But that's not necessarily going to be true. Robin will find his own niche in the group, and it's going to surprise even him."

Secret Files for Teen Titans/Outsiders

courtesy of http://www.newsarama.com
posted November 25, 2002 06:17 AM

While his new series may not even be one issue old yet, DC's Secret Files and Origins editor Ivan Cohen said that March will see an Aquaman Secret Files 2003 (the old-style "numbering" of the Secret Files issues will be replaced with the year of issue from now on).

[... ]

Upcoming Secret Files plans for 2003 are still mostly under wraps, according to Cohen, as many involve new titles that the publisher is yet to announce, as we as one returning character. "But we do have specials planned for Gotham Central, The Legion, and Birds of Prey," Cohen said. "Also, taking advantage of the positive response of 'hybrid' Secret Files like the just-published JLA/JSA, we've got one combined special in the works for the new Teen Titans and Outsiders launches, and another for the new Superman/Batman monthly that will include characters from both families of titles."
