Matthew Clark Drawing The Outsiders

The Pulse recently talked to Matthew Clark about his art on Outsiders: " Over the past few years, Clark has gained a lot of experience working on both team and solo comics. He worked with Geoff Johns on the Teen Titans, Greg Rucka on Adventures of Superman, and now is creating with writer Judd Winick on The Outsiders. Clark said working on The Outsiders is different from some of his other recent comics work because it deals with a lot of "real life stuff." Clark said, "The Outsiders seem to have a lot of sex, drink, and argue. They're very flawed characters and as an artist that’s very appealing."

Lying In The Gutters Reports Rob Liefeld News

In its various forms, Lying In the Gutters has covered rumours and gossip in the comics industry for twelve long glorious and quite scary years. This week, there was some 'news' on Rob Liefeld's possible future with Titans projects: "Rob Liefeld's recent work on "Teen Titans" with Gail Simone was initially seen as a first foot in the door at DC and a chance for Liefeld to expand certain DC properties in ways that he has been successful with in the past. Indeed it appears he had a number of projects in the pipeline there."

"But this week, something changed and Liefeld was suddenly off any Titans project and DC as a whole. "It was definitely fun while it lasted." "

The report cites Rob Liefeld's posts on his herorealm forum, which can be viewed here.

Crisis Catch-Up with Marv Wolfman

Newsarama recently spoke with Marv Wolfman on Crisis: "Speaking from a large-picture perspective, Crisis on Infinite Earths was the most important comic series for DC Comics in the last 20 years. It had real and lasting impacts, forever changing the DCU, and affecting everything that came after. In fact, for any DC fan under 30, the post Crisis DCU is their DCU. Obviously, the original Crisis is still having effects, as seen in Infinite Crisis #1, and a handful of other titles recently released that tie directly back to the storyline created by Marv Wolfman and illustrated by George Pérez. We caught up with Wolfman for a quick catchup on all things Crisis, as well as his upcoming Infinite Crisis work. "

Justin Gray On: Who Is Golden Eagle?

"From what I read on your great website [titanstower.com], not even Golden Eagle's editor thought much of him, that worked for us because we knew "Who is Golden Eagle and why should we care?" would be a fun question to answer." - Hawkman writer, Justin Gray.

Hawkman #45 featured the dramatic conclusion to the most recent Hawkman saga - featuring former Teen Titan, Golden Eagle. After years of speculation, the origins of Charley Parker's armor were revealed! Check out all the details of the revised page for Golden Eagle. But beware: There are SPOILERS!

Geoff Johns Q & A

When Geoff Johns agreed to answer questions from Newsarama readers, just days before his long-awaited and anticipated Infinite Crisis debuts from DC, we left it open-ended whether he’d pick selected questions to respond to, or answer them all. And then the questions came flooring in … and in … and in … For the full scoop, click here.

Here's some Titans highlights:
- Trigon "kinda" appears in Teen Titans #31
- On Terra and Aquagirl: "Love Terra and Aquagirl, but there will be a team shift as the book comes out of Crisis and I can’t reveal the line-up yet. There are plans for Terra somewhere else."
- The ramifications of Hank Hall/Extant's death will be dealt with
- Nightwing in Crisis: "He’ll definitely be getting the spotlight in Infinite Crisis. Phil draws an incredible Nightwing.: "
- On using Young Justice Characters: "A lot of those guys listed up there will appear in Crisis. Cissie and Greta (Arrowette and Secret) are still schoolmates with Wonder Girl, but both retired from the super-hero business. Greta was given the chance to be normal again and Peter David wrapped up Cissie’s story so she wouldn’t be Arrowette again."
- On Captain Carrot: " Check out Titans #30 and #31. Each one has a four issue Captain Carrot story intersected through the Titans stories. Kinda like that Pirate comic in Watchman. "
- Titans Crisis Ties: "Titans #32 and 33 will tie-in right before the One Year Later. Outsiders will be tying in as well. The Titans will have significant roles in Crisis."
- On Jesse Quick: "There are plans for Jesse Quick in 2006 that involve super-powers."

Catching Up With George Pérez

Along with the recently announced George Pérez: Storyteller coming in December, the legendary comic creator will have seen two retrospectives on his 30 year career (the other being Modern Masters: George Pérez from Two Morrows Publishing) in the span of the last two years. Teen Titans #29 and Beyond

Geoff Johns has posted some teasers about upcoming plans for Teen Titans at his website. Geoff writes:

Just finished working...it's 5 a.m.! (I'm on Hawaii time) Thought I'd pop in and update you all on what we've got coming up. Hopefully we can convince Tony Daniel to preview a few pages at some point.

There are some major plans that I just finished tonight for Post-Crisis that I'm extremely excited about, introducing a new villain that's going to freak the Titans out -- so much they're going to need to find another team to help, but one you will never expect, composed of people and...things...Lots of new scenarios, new characters, new members and a new chapter starts in March -- but first...

In #29, Jason Todd journeys to the Tower to confront Tim Drake -- and exactly why ARE dead characters coming back to life...? Ask Raven.

#30 begins with perhaps the oddest first page in Titans history (you won't believe it until you see it) and into a two-part story wrapping up in #31 that focuses on Raven's quest to close the door between life and death. But someone's already used it to his advantage -- Brother Blood -- and he has strange plans for the City of Angels. Plus, what the hell is Speedy's blue arrow for?

And then in #32, the Titans will face the strongest adversary to date. It's extremely personal, but they've never met. Any guesses?

Leading to #33, the issue before the one-year later. Can't say much on it except it guest-stars Nightwing.

Thanks to everyone reading the book. We'll see you in October!

Titans Companion in Previews

Just thought that you might be interested in a sneak peek at the Titans Companion ad before everyone sees it in Previews this week. Anyone who intends to buy the book is strongly encouraged to preorder a copy from their local retailer or buy it online as not every store will be carrying it.  There is a link on this very page to pre-order the book from amazon.com! Also, there is a planned volume two, but only if orders and sales for volume one are high enough! So we really need your support in buying the book and spreading the word!

There's plenty of Pérez material in it to make George's fans happy, including a plethora of artwork and a four-part interview covering his entire Titans run. This one's pretty comprehensive, so even if people think that they've heard it all about his Titans run, they might find themselves learning a thing or two anyway!

Here’s the solicit copy:  Can you believe it's been 25 years since the New Teen Titans first hit the scene? Most notably, they were the talk of the town when Marv Wolfman and George Pérez put the teen superheroes in the path of the wrecking ball. But there's such a rich history behind the super team, any attempt at an all-inclusive history would be a daunting task for any devoted fan. But Twomorrows Publishing did the homework, and came up with The Titans Companion Volume 1 SC to help celebrated the 25th anniversary. Inside are a series of interviews with creators, a comprehensive Silver Age section, and more. Check it out in the Comics section!

Geoff Johns On Titans After Crisis

News from San Diego Comic-Con 2005! Barbara Kesel, former editor of the Teen Titans, moderated a panel featuring Titans writers and artists past and present, including the legendary Nick Cardy, artist on a memorable run of the first Teen Titans series; Marv Wolfman, former writer of the New Teen Titans; Geoff Johns, current writer of the Titans’ tales; and Glen Murakami, producer of the Teen Titans animated show, appearing on Cartoon Network and produced by Warner Bros. Animation.

The Titans creators spoke about each of their runs and opened the floor to fan questions. When asked about the reasons for killing Omen, Geoff hinted "Sometimes characters don't always stay dead..." Another fan asked about where Donna will be after the Crisis. Geoff only assured that Donna would have an important role in the upcoming CRISIS series, and he couldn't divulge what team she would be on... yet.

I asked what we could expect in the upcoming year of TEEN TITANS, and Geoff offered some hints: The line-up will be shaken up a bit. There will be new members, some revisions of current teen characters, and a change in direction after the Crisis. Red Hood will be showing up in #29 looking for Tim. Nightwing will be showing up for two issues around #31-32. Doom Patrol will be appearing [which begs the question... "WHICH Doom Patrol?]. And finally, Titans East is coming! But don't expect Titans East to have their own series--- it will all be part of the book. Geoff said that he thought after almost three years, the book needed to be shaken up a bit. And he was excited to introduce some new elements to the mix.

Look for a full report on the panel... and some more news from San Diego in the next few days! And Titans fans won't want to miss TEEN TITANS #26... which features a shocking last page. Expect the unexpected!

Brotherhood of Evil Rises in Season Five

TitansGo.net has announced that the Brotherhood of Evil will be appearing in the fifth season of Teen Titans! The classic Brotherhood of Evil team was in constant conflict with the Doom Patrol! Look for the season to loosely adapt [very loosely] the storyline featured in NEW TEEN TITANS #13-16 [1982].

Brotherhood of Evil was a powerful international crime syndicate whose inner circle comprised the Brain, a disembodied human brain preserved in a special fluid; Monsieur Mallah, a gorilla given superhuman intelligence through the Brain's surgical techniques; and Madame Rouge, an elastic villainess gifted with extraordinary disguise skills. The Brotherhood of Evil battled the original Doom Patrol numerous times before Rouge was finally driven insane after one of the Brain's experimental surgical operations. Allying herself with General ZahI, another of the Doom Patrol's enemies, Rouge turned against her comrades and tried to kill them. See their full story at the Brotherhood of Evil page!

The Titans are Doomed in Season Five

Producer Sam Register hinted at a DC Comics super-team making their animated debut in season five of the Teen Titans. An inside source has revealed the identity of the super-team in question: It’s none other than the Doom Patrol!

A team of freaks and misfits, the strange team was established during the Silver Age of comics in the mid-60s. The team is composed of: Robot Man [a man’s brain saved from death and placed in a robot body]; Negative Man [a bandaged man composed of pure energy]; Elasti-Girl [a beautiful woman who can grow as well as shrink in size]; Mento [a man whose mental prowess is enhanced by a powerful helmet]; and the Chief [their mysterious wheelchair-bound leader].

Beast Boy met the team after they gathered and became their junior member, long before he joined the Titans. Elasti-Girl and Mento married and later adopted Beast Boy. George Pérez 5 Year Exclusive to DC!

Superstar comic book creator George Pérez, responsible for some of the biggest landmarks in modern comic book history, has signed an exclusive contract that will keep him working for DC through May of 2010. See George talk about his future DC work, Titans GAMES and Donna Troy!

“As mentioned, the first major DC project that will bear Pérez’s name is The Return of Donna Troy , written by Phil Jimenez and penciled by José Luis Garcia-Lopez (“We jokingly called this book ‘EZ company’ when we started,” Pérez joked, “Because all of our names end in –ez.”)   He’s actually glad that he’s not handling the full art duties on the project. “I’m grateful that José is providing me with a chance to do the finishes on this project without having to do the storytelling as well,”  he said. “José, first and foremost, is what drew me into that project to begin with. My art agent, who represents Phil Jimenez, José, and me told DC that, ‘If you tell George that José is involved, he’ll volunteer to ink it right away’— and he was right! It was like when I inked Curt Swan years ago; I learned so much working on a master like José.”

“Pérez is very much aware that Donna Troy is as much a DC event as it is a miniseries. “I know the book is getting a lot of attention; it has grown from a miniseries to a crossover involving the Teen Titans and the Outsiders, and now it’s a major story that’s going to serve as a linchpin for something even bigger that DC is doing. There were a couple of panels that we were asked to redraw in the first issue because of emphasis they wanted to put on those scenes, which will play a major role in the DC tapestry.”

“Unfortunately, the demands of The Return of Donna Troy   forced Pérez to take another break from the Teen Titans: Games graphic novel to which he had returned last year. “Unfortunately, Games ground to a halt because of Donna Troy; originally this project was going to be announced for late July, but when it moved up to early June, almost two months early, I had to put the Titans graphic novel on hold. I just haven’t had a chance to do anything further on it for the time being, and I don’t think that it’s going to make it by the end of the year, just because I have fifty more pages to draw and little time to draw it right now. Games will probably be drawn as I’m doing other books as well, so it’ll probably be 2006 before it comes out. I wish it could be 2005—but this project is so big that I don’t have time to do both and do give them the attention they deserve.”

Jimenez An Infinite Success

He a superstar artist, an accomplished writer and a really nice guy. The first is the hotly anticipated Infinite Crisis, the sequel to the successful 1985 miniseries Crisis On Infinite Earths, expected to be the top-selling comic series of the year. The second is The Return Of Donna Troy miniseries, which Jimenez is working on with two of his comic book idols, George Pérez and Jose Luis Garcia-Lopez, and the final project is his long-awaited mature-readers sci-fi/fantasy project, Otherworld. In advance of his appearance at the Toronto Comicon ( www.torontocomicon.com ), which runs tomorrow until May 1, Jimenez spoke with Metro about how he manages such a busy schedule, the frustrations of being a writer and why his lips are sealed when it comes to Infinite Crisis. Phil Jimenez on Donna, Titans and More!

Phil Jimenez took time out of his busy schedule for a chat session. During the chat, Phil gave a few hints about Donna Troy, the Titans and more! To read the full chat, check out the thread on geoffjohns.com! And thanks to Lance aka teentitan2002 for organizing the chat!

On Titans in Crisis: " Oh, I have no desire to kill off any Titans."

On Favorite Titans: " Troia, Starfire, Raven, Bumblebee..I really dig the chicks. I do like Nightwing a lot. Tempest I obviously have a soft spot for." More Favorite Titans: " I like the original five, ultimately. I also dig Starfire. And others like Bumblebee, Herald, Flamebird. Duela IS fun."

On least favorite Titans: " Actually, the Flash -- ulp -- is one of my least favorite characters. I think speedsters are very difficult to use practically -- I couldn't come up with a reason month after month why a character than can move thousands of miles per second can't just beat up villains, discover their secrets, and do everything they want to before breakfast! I've never liked Wally. I think it's cause he was so mean to Red Star. [smile]"

On Donna Troy's Return: " The Titans of Myth are involved. the Titans and the Outsiders are involved. [..] Like I said, I'm not revising her history here. If it's revised AGAIN (god, I hope not), that'll come after me. [It] will NOT be another "Who is" storyline."

On Donna's Future in the DCU: " I think folks do have plans for her, yes..."

On Kole: "The Kole in Team Titans was a creation of Monarch, I believe! I love Kole, but also don't mind that she's dead, either. It's okay that some characters stay dead." On Kole's Possible Return: " You are kidding, right? I mean, not about the scene, but bout the fact that she's alive, yes? There are so many rumors out there... Honestly, I hear rumors all the time, some true, some bizarrely false, but I always wonder where they come from."

Asked if he'd like to do a Titans East: " I'd love to do Titan East..but we'll see. Have a lot on my plate right now!"

"Robot Chicken" Features Teen Titans

Last night I attended the Cartoon Network Adult Swim upfront presentation. A lot of the creators were in full force... Mingling and chatting about the shows. I caught up with producers Seth Green and former ToyFare Editor Matt Senreich, who were very excited about their stop-motion animated sketch-fest, "Robot Chicken."

Seth mentioned how cool it was to get some guest voices such as Burt Reynolds, Phyllis Diller and Don Knotts. He was also very proud that he just completed his very first stop-animation sequence for a future episode. Matt said the show is a blast to work on. Many of the guest voices come out for the voice recording - such as Burt Reynolds - who ended up hanging out at the studio for most of the day. They were both very gratified to see the show is getting a buzz behind it.

Seth also revealed to me that the [most likely 'old school'] Teen Titans will be appearing in an upcoming episode! Look for the Teen Titans on "Robot Chicken" - which airs Sunday nights at 11:30pm. And look for Animation Insider to have a full report on the upfront presentation this weekend! "Robot Chicken" does contain adult themes and content - and is recommended for people over 14 years old.

Blackfire Returns!

Blackfire Returns! Comicbookresources.com caught up with Dave Gibbons, writer of THE RANN/THANAGAR WAR. Gibbons talks about various DCU characters involved in the mini-series... Including Starfire's sister, Blackfire!

Dave Gibbons reveals details of Blackfire's appearance: "A former Teen Titans adversary also plays a role in the series. "There's also a character called Komand'r who is also known as Blackfire, who is a Tamaranean queen. She gets involved in a rather nefarious way. She's a very hard character. You can't really define her as a hero or a villain," Gibbons explained. "She's very much after her own end. Obviously there is a degree of politicking and a degree of power shifting going on and she tries to use it for her own advantage." For the full article, click here.

Wizard World LA Brings Donna Troy & Titans East Tidbits

Newsarama has the full report on the DC Panel from Wizard World LA!

"Speaking about June’s 4-issue DC Special: The Return Of Donna Troy by Phil Jimenez, José Luis García-López and George Pérez, Didio told attendees to notice that the panelists were couching what they were saying about the project very carefully, and not saying much. He explained once Countdown hit, a lot of what DC is doing will be seen and understood in greater depth and detail. He added the book is great looking and will help them in a way “rebrand” the DCU."

"Finally, asked is there were any plans for Metal Men or Titans East, Didio said he’s received a couple of pitches for Metal Men, but nothing that has struck his fancy. And as for Titans East, there is a lot going on with Teen Titans right now, but DC is thinking about it." For the full report see the full article.

Ravager: Perfect Foil for Batgirl

CBR News spoke to "Batgirl" writer Andersen Gabrych about Batgirl and how she's adjusting to life on her own in the big city: "Issue 63 and 64 of "Batgirl" will have tremendous impact on Cassandra because Bludhaven crime boss, The Penguin, hires Deathstroke the Terminator and his daughter, The Ravager to kill Batgirl. "The two issue story is called 'Could Have Been'," Gabrych explained. "The whole thing is essentially that's what she could have been. Her life was supposed to be that she was to be her dad's right hand man." [...] Gabrych promises the showdown between Batgirl and Ravager in issue 64 will be a spectacular brawl. "It's a really interesting fight," Gabrych said. "I have to say its one of my favorites. The entirety of issue 64 is pretty much all out fight."

"[...] Gabrych is pitting Batgirl against villains that will have personal resonance with her. "Ravager, for me, is a perfect foil for her," he explained. "Gemini from the Brotherhood of Evil is a perfect foil for her in a lot of ways; with her having a villainous mother and what does that mean. Not just that in sort of powers, a shape shifter would the hardest thing for Cassie to fight as far as she can't read it."

George Pérez on GAMES and "EZ Company" Project

George Pérez recently provided an update on his current projects. This info courtesy of georgePérez.com: " I am currently inking the incredible Jose Luis Garcia-Lopez on a project written by Phil Jimenez, who is also the cover penciler, with me inking Phil. Unfortunately, beyond that, I'm not at liberty to reveal what the project is so I've been calling it "The EZ Company Project" since all three creators share the same last two letters in our family names. DC Comics should be making an announcement relatively soon and it will be a relief to finally be able to talk about it openly. "

"[A]fter "The EZ Company Project" I will be primarily focusing my attention on completing GAMES: THE TITANS GRAPHIC NOVEL. Inker Mike Perkins has already started on some pages and Tom Smith has 30 pages ready to start so it's up to me to get busy so that Marv Wolfman can start dialoguing the first half of the book."

"As for conventions this year, here's my schedule for 2005 so far.
February 25-27: Mega Con in Orlando, FL.
March 18-20: Wizard World Los Angeles in Long Beach, CA
April 22-24: Pittsburgh Comicon in Monroeville, PA (I even provided the T-Shirt art)
July 14-17: Comic-Con International in San Diego, CA
September 13-17: Comic Book Festival in Avilés, Spain "

"Those are the confirmed shows. There is a possibility of more, but I'm trying to limit my time away from the drawing board this year. "

Geoff Johns at WonderCon:
Titans/Outsiders and more!

Comicbookresources.com reported from WonderCon on DC's Saturday Panel. Here's the latest update on Geoff Johns' future plans: "Geoff Johns kept mum about "Green Lantern," except to say that he's been doing research to prepare for the return of Hal Jordan, including spending time at Edwards Air Base with the test pilot department, and checking all his facts with a major. "Everything could happen," he said, "except for the ring." He's also just about prepared to talk about the upcoming Teen Titans/Outsiders crossover, which is another result of DC's long term plotting. "It's been building up for a long time, we've been planning it for two years. And it's going to make a lot of people throw the book and say 'What the hell is going on?'" After that, there will be a new penciller on the book, who Bob Wayne admitted under pressure would be Ivan Reis. "

For the full report, click here.

Ivan Reis Named New Teen Titans Artist

One of the larger announcements for the just-wrapped DCU panel was that Ivan Reis will be the new penciller on Teen Titans. That and more came out of the just under an hour and a half long panel at WonderCon." Newsarama had the details: "Ivan Reis was named as the new, ongoing artist for Teen Titans. Most likely, Reis will begin after the four-part Titans/Outsiders crossover, running through the titles in May and June, which should give him time to complete his penciling duties on Rann/Thanagar War."

I think Reis is a great choice for the new Titans artist! Ivan is no stranger to the Teen Titans characters. Countdown to Donna Troy

Written by Wizard scribe Ben Morse in WIZARD #161: "Inside sources at DC confirm that this is the first big chapter of a far bigger story, but won't reveal much more - although they did point to a surprising flashpoint for where it all began: the death of former Titan and Wonder Woman sidekick Donna Troy almost two years ago. "That was the starting gun for what is ultimately going to be the biggest event of the DC Universe," said DC Vice President-Executive Dan DiDio."

"Creators involved are careful to maintain the shroud of secrecy, refusing to provide plot details for COUNTDOWN. "I cant really say much about COUNTDOWN except that it's a mystery that runs through the entire DCU and sets the stage for 2005," said [Geoff] Johns. "Essentially, it's like a State of Union Address for where DCU is going."

Rich Bernatovech on SENTINELS and Titans

Newsarama reports: "SENTINELS #1: FOOTSTEPS (Dec 2003) First off, a little 101 – as previously mentioned, the Sentinels is the name of the team of superheroes who suddenly disappeared without warning. The children of these superheroes decide to continue in their parent’s footsteps and carry on the good fight. An feature of the book is that it is never dumbed-down for the reader, the story simply launches, taking readers along for the entire ride. As twists are thrown in at a mile a minute, readers watch as these new second generation heroes are tossed into fights they are perhaps not ready for while finding themselves starting to try and find out what truly happened to their parents."

"Sentinels is a labor of love for Bernatovech who has loved comic books since he was a young boy. It was this love of comic books, specifically The New Teen Titans, which led him to Titantalk. “I was a big fan of George Pérez and that got me to join an APA called Titantalk at age 12," said Bernatovech. “It really fed my creativity to be around all the other creative people in the club. It's pretty funny that Titantalk has so many alumni in the business: Rob Liefield, Hank Kanalz, Devin Grayson and Jay Faerber to name a few. I don't know what it was about that APA, and whether you like those people's work or not, you can't deny that there must have been something different going on there for so many professionals to come out of it. For myself, I learned a lot about dedication and discipline. It was a great training ground." For the full article, click here.

"Titans Tomorrow": Gives Hints at Future Titans Storylines

Geoff Johns reveals on his site that "Titans Tomorrow was MORE than just a very cool alternate future story! He writes: "I'm thrilled with this arc and EVERY single line in it will effect the Teen Titans book from this point on.  A lot of lines are missed so far...study carefully. Mike did a great job, and is wrapping up his last issue, but we've got an TERRIFIC guy swooping in to bring us to our next stage with Teen Titans. The cover of #24 should make everything pretty clear, but expect major things with Titans in '05.  And Bumblebee rules, though Red Star is beginning to grow on me in the upcoming Doctor Light arc. "

OK, Titans Tomorrow will get a page at titanstower.com soon enough. But then Geoff goes ahead and issues a challenge of "study carefully..." So I did. Here's an analysis of the questions posed in "Titans Tomorrow"-- click right here and join the speculation!

Mike McKone Exits Titans

The Pulse reports that Mike McKone is exiting DC for Marvel: "Marvel Comics is honored to announce that fan-favorite penciller Mike McKone has accepted a two year exclusive contract! "I’m moving back to the House of Ideas and it feels great!" says McKone, excited by the prospects of the move. "Thanks to Mike Marts, Joe Q, and Dan Buckley, the opportunity to contribute a little more to the Marvel Universe came along and I'm grabbing it with both hands!" McKone's past year's work on DC's Teen Titans has garnered him many accolades with fans and creators alike, but he’s no stranger to the Marvel heroes, though, having contributed to EXILES, THOR, SPIDERMAN 2099, PUNISHER, and HULK." For the full article, click here.

Personally, I'm bummed about the news. Mike put a very unique stamp on the Titans characters. He will be missed! His shoes will be hard to fill - especially since so many artists are exclusive to Marvel, and many DC top talents are tied to projects in 2005. Among exclusive DC artists I'd like to see on the book: Josh Middleton, Chris Batista and Ivan Reis. Here's hoping! Thanks for a great two years, Mike!

New Teen Titans #1 Celebrates 25 Years In 2005

Overstreet Features George Pérez Cover Recreation: "Could it possibly have been a quarter of a century since New Teen Titans #1 hit the stands? Well, yes, it could in 2005. New Teen Titans #1, which debuted following a teaser appearance by the team within the pages of DC Comics Presents #26, became an instant hit following its release back in 1980. The Official Overstreet Comic Book Price Guide #35 celebrates that historic issue and the series that followed with a special re-creation cover by none other than George Pérez, the artist who illustrated the famed original version and helped make that particular super team the powerhouse it is today. Colored by Pérez's JLA/Avengers colorist Tom Smith, this cover will appear in wide release through traditional bookstores on the Random House edition of the Guide and in comic book stops on the limited edition, spiral-bound version called The Big Big Overstreet Comic Book Price Guide in May 2005." The Return of Golden Eagle?

The March solicitations are up. Most intriguing for Titans fans is the cover for Hawkman, which features what looks like.... Golden Eagle? But didn't he die in Titans Hunt in 1991?

The solicitation offers no new clues: "Featuring guest art by Dale Eaglesham (H-E-R-O) & Wade von Grawbadger! Badly wounded and lying in a medication-induced coma, Hawkman is visited by his previous incarnations as a cabal of his worst enemies threatens St. Roch! "

But-- is it a fakeout? What if the cover is a fever dream? or a previous Hawkman? Writer Justin Gray has informed geoffjohns.com: "It is NOT a fakeout." [insert wink icon]. Justin also hinted to pick Hawkman #34. Geoff Johns also hinted that Hawkman was Golden Eagle's mentor back in the early days of his Teen Titans membership. That makes this Hawkman issue all the more intriguing! Read all about Golden Eagle on his bio page!

I drew a picture of the dead Titans a few years ago-- looks like I have to eliminate a few people from this image!

POINT PLEASANT: A Ravenous New Series

A new show from FOX called Point Pleasant is set to premiere Jan. 20th. - executive produced by Marti Noxon ["Buffy the Vampire Slayer"]. The series caught my attention when I read the premise... which reads like Raven: The Series.

"it seems that secret desires, repressed feelings and heightened emotions inexplicably begin to flare when Christina is near.  Christina never knew her mother, and doesn't realize that she's never truly known her father, either.  Christina is the offspring of a mortal woman and the Devil - and although she doesn't know it, the battle for her soul has begun. Teen Titans Co-Creator Bob Haney Passes Away

Comic Book Legend Bob Haney has passed away.

Newsarama reports: "It has been learned that comics legend Bob Haney died on Thanksgiving Day, November 25th. He was 78 years old. [...] Haney was one of the great Silver Age comics writers, landing at DC in the mid-50s, where he soon came to write virtually every comic DC published at one time or another. Haney was the co-creator of the original Teen Titans, Metamorpho, Eclipso, Doom Patrol, and an array of other characters, including Sgt. Rock."

Bob Haney wrote the very first appearances of the Teen Titans in the 1960s. Bob Haney and artist Nick Cardy gave a unique flavor to the Teen Titans in the initial run of the book. To relive those early days, check out the early years section in the library.

Hanye also wrote a Teen Titans Swingin' Elseworlds Special [with art by Jay Stephens] that was scheduled to hit the stands last year. The special was mysteriously shelved. To read about the Swingin' Special, click here. I encourage everyone to contact DC Comics here and politely ask for the Special to see print. It's a fitting tribute to Bob Haney Titanic legacy.

The Pulse caught up with Mike McKone - and offered some preview pages of "Titans Tomorrow." "Sometimes the sheer number of warm bodies running around in the stories can be a little overwhelming, but that's the nature of team books," Teen Titans artist Mike McKone told THE PULSE. McKone's a man of few words, but he gave us a few details about how he keeps track of all the "warm bodies", what he likes the most about working on this particular series, and what's coming up in Titans Tomorrow. Nightwing: Year One Features Titans and Fills in Blanks

Newsarama revealed details behind the Nightwing: Year One Storyline running in Nightwing #101-106. THE DAWN OF NIGHTWING: DIXON & BEATTY ON NIGHTWING: YEAR ONE by Cliff Biggers: "The story of Dick Grayson’s "resignation" as Robin has been told, as has the story of his Teen Titans debut as Nightwing. But how did Grayson make the transition from the role of sidekick to that of solo hero? The story has never been told before... until now."

"Don’t look for a lot of Teen Titans action in this storyline, since it actually covers the period leading up to his Nightwing debut in that series, although Dixon pointed out that "they appear in a really cool scene but this focuses on Dick Grayson solely. But they make lots of great cameos and guest shots.""

Phil Jimenez & Others Reveal DC Encyclopedia Details

Newsarama takes a peek behind the scenes of the recently-published DC Encyclopedia: "It's not every day that a comic universe gets this kind of treatment. Published by DK Publishing, The DC Comics Encyclopedia is a massive (352 pages!) coffee table book document the history of 1000+ characters that inhabit the DC Universe. From stalwarts such as Superman and Batman to relative unknowns such as the Golden Glider and Roy Raymond, TV Detective, this is truly what the subtitle describes it as: "the definitive guide to the characters of DC Universe" A genuine labor of love, Scott Beatty, Robert Greenberger, Phil Jimenez and Daniel Wallace have forged a vast compendium chronicling the immense library of characters in the thriving DC Universe. [...] Newsarama had a chance to speak with the four behind this hardcover compendium to find out what it takes to attempt such a feat, and how it seems their comic book lives have been leading up to something like this."

Phil Jimenez had a little shout-out to your friendly neighborhood titanstower.com webmaster: "The world of Wonder Woman is certainly my strength, as is the Teen Titans - but I have to concede Titans fan Bill Walko even stumped me with Titans lore! So I’m glad I had access to the research!" Thanks for the major props, Phil! Believe me, the man is no slounch in the Titans information department.

The Buzz on Animated Bumblebee

Bumblebee returns in this week's episode, "Wavelength"; I recently chatted with Producer/Story Editor David Slack, who dropped some interesting tidbits about Bumblebee. Originally a character that joined the Titans in the 1970’s comic book, Bumblebee makes her animated debut this season. Take it away, David: "Well, the first thing [comic book writer] Marv Wolfman told me when I told him we were using Bumblebee was "Please dont let her shoot stingers out of her butt." [laughs] Early on, it was uncertain which characters we could use. But Bumblebee stood out. Not only was she a Titans character, but her name was dumb enough we were almost positive no one wanted it. "

"So we started kicking around the idea of bringing Bumblebee in. I think our heroines are some of the best characters, and I know we have a lot of female fans - young and old - of the show. And I think that's great. I think one of my favorite things about our female characters if that they're not "Lara Croft" - which is essentially a guy in a girl's body. They're feminine. I think that's cool. At the comic conventions, it's always fun... girls come up and they're excited about a boy's action cartoon show. So if there was a Titans East, I wanted there to be at least one girl member."

"So we worked on Bumblebee in terms of who she was, and came up with something that would contrast Cyborg well, since she's got some scenes with him in an upcoming episode. We revised her powers a little bit. She's coming up in an episode called WAVELENGTH. We'll see what everyone think of her; I hope they like her as much as I do. I think she came out really well. "

Look for Bumblebee in this week’s upcoming episode, "Wavelength." Here's how the network describes the episode: Brother Blood is back. And this time, it's personal. Cyborg learns that Blood stole his blueprints - and the villain is using Cy's technology to create a doomsday device. Can Cyborg take charge of the team and lead a mission to stop his arch-enemy? Or will he even get the chance?

Winnick Talks About Mia's HIV status and Titans Membership

Judd Winnick talked to comicbookresources.com about Mia contracting HIV and joining the Teen Titans.

"On my watch, and hopefully on the watch of everybody who'll work with DC, there's no intention of having Mia take ill as a result of HIV," said Winick. "She will never die of AIDS related causes on my watch and hopefully on anyone else's watch. The point of this character is she's living with HIV, as many people do. There are people who have been living for 20 years through combination drug therapy and live relatively unencumbered lives."

"Geoff and I are friends and we talk about everything we're doing," said Winick. "Our storylines blend into one another on 'Outsiders' and 'Teen Titans,' anyway, so Geoff has known about this for a while. I've been planning on doing this ever since I took over the title and Geoff found out about that not long after. When we launched 'Outsiders' and 'Teen Titans,' one of the thoughts he had was, 'What do you think about her joining the Titans?' I thought that would be awesome. We immediately worked out the cross-over and that happened very quickly."

Blink and You Missed Bumblebee

Bumblebee made her debut in the TEEN TITANS animated episode "Deception" in a quick camera pan. Readers may recall that Bumblebee is appearing as a request from NEW TEEN TITANS co-creator George Pérez, who drew the classic comic book series. Sam Register [from Cartoon Network] noted in a recent interview: "There was one other thing that came from George. We are thinking of mining the other Titans to use as auxillary members, [and I asked], "Is there anyone you would like us to use?" and he did mention Bumblebee. So Bumblebee will be coming to the animated Titans as a request from George."

Look for Bumblebee to have an even greater role on the series as season three progresses. Here is a freeze frame of the screen grab featuring Bumblebee. Look for more on "Deception" later this week at the teen titans animated site.

Marv Wolfman on Animated Terra

Marv Wolfman commented on the animated Terra on his Today's Views; The conclusion to season two featured the conclusion of the Judas Contract arc. Marv had this to say [excerpt]: "Because of last night's moving episode of The Teen Titans cartoon show on Cartoon Network, I've been getting a lot of emails asking me to bring back Terra in one way or another. It reminds me of when we did the original version of that story 20+ years ago. Terra then, and now, elicited a lot of strong feelings, including one death threat. But Terra in the comics is dead and has been (the 2nd Terra who appeared in Team Titans, was clearly and honestly described as a girl who had been kidnapped and brainwashed into thinking she was Terra and the Titans were led, through duplicity, to believe that she was the original. But she never was). The Terra on TV, more repentant than the psychopathic killer from the comics, has been, well, see the episode for yourselves. However, for all those writing to me, as much as I love hearing your thoughts and comments about the characters George Pérez and I created way back when, I really have no say as to what goes on in the TV show."

Marvels' Teen Titans: Young Avengers

Young Avengers - written by Allan Heinberg, and illustrated by Jimmy Cheung - is slated for an early 2005 debut. Newsarama talked with Heinberg and he talked a lot about the new series and its similarities to TEEN TITANS.

"I know there are cynics online who are already saying that Young Avengers is a desperate attempt to capitalize on the success of Geoff and Mike McKone's Teen Titans. The truth is, I don't know how you can do a book about a team of teen super heroes and not be compared to the Titans. So, as a huge, lifelong Titans fan, I want the book to acknowledge its debt to Teen Titans even as it reveals itself to be something entirely its own. In the end, though, it's always comes down to characters and the storytelling. I'm hoping readers will give us a chance and allow themselves to be surprised."

TALKING TEEN TITANS WITH GEOFF JOHNS

Newsarama sat down with Johns for a while to talk the kids, the team, the upcoming Legion storyline, and more.

Geoff on Titans Tomorrow: "They head back, but ten years too late, where the world is splintered into darker and brighter sections of what it is now. The Titans are adults -- Batman, Superman, Wonder Woman, Animal Man (formerly known as Beast Boy), Aquawoman (Lorena from the current Aquaman), the Flash and Dark Raven. Why they are the way they are will be explored but as Superboy says..."Man, we're real #$@%!" This is not your regular "glimpse of the future" -- as the ending of the story arc, wrapping up in #19, will show. This will effect the present, and reveal some details about the next year of Titans. Also, we'll be focusing on what's happened to the Titans -- and all things related to them. From Bette Kane (a.k.a. Flamebird) to the Ravager."

Geoff Johns Hints at Teen Titans: Year Two!

Titans fans should check out the Teen Titans Message Board at geoffjohns.com. Geoff dropped some interesting tidbits:

>> Geoff says: "Gar's origin: It hasn't been changed... we've just shown how he caught his disease. Everything else should be intact."
>> Geoff says: "You will see appearances by Karen [Bumblebee], Terra and Hawk and Dove in Year 2."
>> Geoff says: "Raven: Her body was made by Brother Blood out of the blood pit. ÊHer biological age is between Wonder Girl and Gar. Think of it as a new lease on life and a chance to start over. ÊShe'll be making a decision in #15 on where she's going to go next."
>> Geoff on Titans/Legion: "And TEEN TITANS readers should be happy. We're not only double-shipping issues #15 and #16, we've got a TEEN TITANS/LEGION. Issue #15 wraps up the trouble with Beast Boy, as well as the next step for Tim Drake and the return of a villain most won't expect. Then two weeks later sparks fly as Superboy gets whisked away to the 31st Century and brings the Teen Titans with him. And a week following that, I get to team-up with one of my favorite writers ever, Mark Waid, as we tackle the TEEN TITANS/LEGION one-shot which sets up Mark and Barry Kiton's new book LEGION OF SUPER-HEROES! I love the Legion, especially Brainiac 5, and this was a blast to work on. It also leads right into our next Titans story-arc which begins in #17. Again, when you see the cover you will be blown away."

Season Three Brings Brother Blood and Titans East!

Animation Insider has some exciting news to share concerning season three of TEEN TITANS, which begins at the end of August! My sources have hinted at a few things to expect in in the next season. First, there's a new villain in town - but one familiar to long-time comic book readers - Brother Blood! Look for Brother Blood to propel a season-long arc for the next batch of 13 episodes. Blood, however, will be toned back from his comic-book counterpart, who was a fanatical religious zealot that bathed in a river of blood. Instead, the animated Blood will have other aspects of the character emphasized, such as his charismatic sway over the young and directionless.

The other exciting bit of news is the debut of a brand new Titans team: Titans East! Comic book readers recall the Titans West auxillary team... and this follows that proud tradition of East/West Titans teams. So who will be on Titans East? Look for Bumblebee, a couple of returning Titans who will thrill fans, and a couple of brand-new characters. Looks like Season Three will be full of excitement and surprises! Stay tuned for more information about season three soon!

Geoff Johns Appears at Midtown Comics

Geoff Johns did a signing at Midtown Comics' newest location at Gran Central on Lexington Avenue on June 24th. Many lucky fans were able to meet with Geoff and chat briefly. And some of us even got a different answer than "Wait and see!" [That's Geoff's default answer to avoid spoilage...]

Here's some of what is coming up for the Titans:
- My first question to Geoff was "Man, what are you doing to Rose Wilson?" He mentioned that it's going to get even worse; That the Deathstroke serum will continue to effect her mind.
- Next we chatted a bit about Raven - who will be showing off some new powers in the next few issues. Geoff revealed that Raven "will be a doorway..." To what, he wouldn't say. Sounded like the angst factor will be up a few notches for poor Raven.
- Look for a storyline spotlighting Starfire in year two.
- Look for the Titans to encounter - and battle - a future Titans team in an upcoming issue
- Look for the latest Hawk & Dove team soon

Geoff also mentioned he visits the 'tower a lot, and uses it often for research. No pressure to keep those profile pages up to date, huh?

Mike Davis supplied the 'tower with pictures from this event. To see them, click here.

1. YouÕve got a Robin, a Wonder Girl, and now a Kid Flash. All youÕre missing is a Speedy and an Aqualad. If Winnick let you have the Speedy-in-training Mia from Green Arrow, would you let her join up?

Geoff: And it's not like anyone seems to be using Tempest for anything. I would let Mia join, sure. I love where Judd's taking the character. The last issue had an incredible ending. I think they have plans for Tempest. I do like Lorena, the girl in Aquaman right now, however...

First Teen Titans DVD Scheduled for September Release

The always-excellent tvshowsondvd.com reports that Teen Titans is scheduled for DVD release in September... the good news? Six episodes per disk! This gives me hope that two disks will comprise an entire season [a la Samauri Jack].

"Besides a heads-up in early March, and a minor update a few weeks later, we haven't heard a peep since out of Warner about Teen Titans on DVD. But now Diamond Previews has posted this info about the release. Frankly, our track record with accuracy on their announcements hasn't been the best, but we've heard enough gossip from other sources to make us think this one's fairly on-target:

TEEN TITANS - DIVIDE AND CONQUER

A new generation of super-heroes comes to life as Robin leads Cyborg, Beast Boy, Starfire, and Raven in this all-new, high-octane animated series! New Teen Titans Trade Paperback in September

TEEN TITANS: FAMILY LOST TP
Writer: Geoff Johns

$9.95 US/$15.25 CAN, 176 pages

Judging from the description, I would guess it includes the current storyline. The first trade paperback collected issues #1-7. I would guess this book collects "Raven Rising," which comprises #8-12. The inclusion of Ivan Reis suggests that Wizard's Teen Titans #1/2 issue will be included as well.

Justice League "Starcrossed" Offers Titans-Related Goodies

Cartoon Network aired the finale to the Justice League series as we know it with "Starcrossed". In that episode, we see the first animated appearance of the alien conquering race, The Gordanians. Starfire alluded to the Gordanians in the TEEN TITANS episode, "Sisters." Longtime Titans fans know that Starfire was a slave to the Gordanians for years before the Titans rescued her.

Also, Wally West is confirmed as the secret identity of Flash - and appears unmasked for the first time in the series.

Lastly, The end credits featured the first preview of JUSTICE LEAGUE UNLIMITED, which premieres August 7th. JLU will feature Hawk & Dove, who were shown briefly in the preview. For all these images, click here!

Teen Titans #1/2 Sneak Preview
With Spoilers or Without

I recently obtained an advance copy of Wizard's TEEN TITANS #1/2! In short, it rocks.

The story is essentially how Rose came to be the latest Ravager. Geoff Johns has certainly done his homework. Every Titans-fact is right on the money. The detailed history of Rose Wilson, Lili Worth and The Ravager [Wade] is extremely accurate. Geoff Johns even mentions: "Although Rose has been around for over a decade, she's rarely appeared. Her past connections to Deathstroke, the Titans, and Bart Allen grabbed my attention." Comic Series To Reflect Toon? UPDATED

Some insiders have revealed some future plans for DC Comics that effect the TEEN TITANS series. Apparently, Warner Bros. is pushing for DC properties to reflect the mass media versions of the characters. So Batman will reflect the upcoming animated series, which is a reflection of the movie. Also look for the Teen Titans comic book to reflect it's animated counterpart.

According to sources, the characters and tone of the current series will shift radically. Many of the plans Geoff Johns & co. had will be shifted. DC editorial is happy with the book - but the corporate higher-ups have unfortunately mandated some changes; Raven's newest incarnation WILL reflect the goth attitude of the animated version; That actually fits storywise with the current arc. And Starfire will be softened to reflect the animated version. In the Titans comic, Robin will never be referred to as 'Tim Drake' - just as Robin. Also look for the 'adult themes' and violence to be toned down. No deaths or extreme violence. Apparently, people are afraid kids will be scared off by the book if it's too intense. The actual art style of the book may also shift to reflect the cartoon more; Titans may be going more manga.

Also look for 'Speedy' and 'Aqualad' to perhaps join down the line; But it will be the animated 'versions' - not the current Roy Harper or Tempest character. And there may not be any aknowledgement of those characters. Since OUTSIDERS is considered a more 'adult' book. If you made it this far you may have guessed: April's Fool's!

>> Sometime down the road we will see how Jericho survived.
>> MIGHT be seeing Red Star and Pantha.
>> Troia and Raven are not the same person
>> He will be tweaking gars back story starting with issue #13.

Wizard LA Brings Teen Titans and Outsiders News

Newsarama reports on the DC Panel at WizardWorld LA:

"The Outsiders take on a new Fearsome Five in June - although taking on the group puts the group of heroes in a difficult position of defending the Five's intended target - LexCorp. Winick's comment about the storyline was slightly ominous - "can anyone save LexCorp?" In discussing the complaints about the previous Outsiders storyline which featured, among other things, demons and an orgy, Winick said that he wanted to put a label on the cover of the upcoming three-issu arc that would read: "Demon & orgy free!"

Raven will continue to be one of the foci of storylines and subplots in Teen Titans. Writer Goeff Johns said that the former Titan, Deula Dent, (the Joker's daughter) would be dealt with in upcoming issues.

Also look for Teen Titans to guest star in an upcoming story arc in Action Comics involving the KINGDOM COME villain, Gog. The Teen Titans will also be appearing in Flash. For the full report click here.

"Gar Logan will be the Donna Troy of this reboot!" according to John Byrne in a chat held March 9th.

On his messageboard, John Byrne has announced that his next project for DC will be a relaunch of Doom Patrol. While Byrne is remaining somewhat tight-lipped about the news the group will include - as will a handful of new, yet unnamed members - apparently, Niles Caulder - the Chief; the Cliff Steel Robotman, Rita Farr - Elasti-Girl; and Larry Trainor - Negative Man. As for the feel of the book, Byrne said that the series' catchphrase is "Together Again for the First Time!" - this given the team's "appearance" in the pages of JLA #94. In regards to an explanation, Byrne related that their JLA appearance is the first time they have appeared openly in the DCU, although Batman knows something about them, and Ray Palmer (the Atom) has a connection with them. For the full story at Newsarama, click here.

Of course, a rebooted Doom Patrol mean huge implications for the Titans. A total revise of Gar's history [which explains plans to tell his origin in a few issues] And now we need to re-think every encounter with Steve Dayton and Mento, the Hybrid, Madame Rogue and her 'daughter' Gemini, the Crimelord... Bring on the Advil.

"Winner Take All" Episode Details and Preview Images

Animation Insider has been provided some information on the episode, "Winner Take All," which airs March 6th. This is the first animated appearance of Speedy, Joto and Wildebeest.... all characters from the Teen Titans comics. Look for Speedy [described by creators as "Robin with a bow"] to have a one-on-one battle with Robin. Joto is renamed Hot Spot for the series. And Wildebeest will be a combination of the various versions of Wildebeest in the comics; He will be a teenager though, unlike the 'Baby' Wildebeest character that was a Titan.

The episode is written by Dwayne McDuffie ["Fear Itself"]. This is Dwayne's second Teen Titans script. It was originally called "It's How You Play The Game" but it was retitled "Winner Take All."

Aqualad's voice will be reprised by Wil Weaton and Speedy will be voiced by Mike Erwin [Mike played the Teenage Bruce Banner in the 2003 movie, "HULK," based on the comic book character; He also has a recurring role as Colin Hart in WB's "Everwood"]

For preview images of this long-awaited episode, click here

Here's the official logline: ROBIN, CYBORG, and BEAST BOY are transported to an alternate dimension. There, the mysterious MASTER OF GAMES invites our heroes and five other superpowered teens (AQUALAD, SPEEDY, GIZMO, JOTO, and WILDEBEEST) to participate in a friendly competition: THE TOURNAMENT OF HEROES. As the contest rages on, Robin becomes more and more determined to win -- while Cyborg becomes more and more worried about what happens to the losers after they disappear. Will Robin realize that winning isn't everything before he loses the only thing that matters: his friends?

Now here's the special announcement I promised: It will contain exclusive interviews with Glen Murakami and Sam Register - two of the people responsible for bringing Pérez's Teen Titans to the TV screen - conducted by yours truly. This is the first time Glen and Sam have spoken so extensively on bringing the TEEN TITANS comic books to TV.

"Drawing Inspiration: An Interview with Glen Murakami": Glen Murakami - Producer, Teen Titans - in perhaps his most comprehensive TEEN TITANS interview ever. Glen talks about how he translated the classic New Teen Titans to TV - infusing it with his own unique vision - and preserving his love for the original characters.

"Bringing Titans to TV: An Interview with Sam Register": As senior vice president, original animation for Cartoon Network, Sam Register is responsible for overseeing development and production of original, action-oriented animated programming for the 24-hour cable service. His current projects include Star Wars: Clone Wars animated shorts, Duck Dodgers and of course, Teen Titans. Sam talks about his excitement in bringing Teen Titans to TV - and offers some hints about what to expect in seasons three and four - and beyond.

PACESETTER Magazine can be ordered my mail for $6.95. For information on ordering PACESETTER #4, click here.

In the next few weeks, I will post interview excerpts... but the first place you will see these complete interviews is in PACESETTER Magazine #4.

Marv Wolfman writes an episode for Season Three TEEN TITANS

Marv Wolfman wrote the season one episode, "Deep Six", which introduced Aqualad. Marv is returning to pen a script in season three.

In Marv's weblog: Today's Views at his website, he talked about his current projects. Check out his site to see what he's up to. "Today's Views is an irregular weblog updated when there are new fun things to report. Keep checking in. "

Here's what he said about the new script: "I'm starting work on an outline for the new episode of the TEEN TITANS animated series, season three. I can't say anything specific about it, but I think the story David Slack, the Titans' story-editor and I hashed out has the potential to be really fun. While I was at Warner's, I also picked up my Titans crew jacket (way cool) and learned that the Titans is the Cartoon Network's number one rated show. Could I be more proud?

Wizard Gives Geoff Johns a Titans Casting Call

CASTING CALL: Geoff Johns gives you his perspective on who should star in a Teen Titans movie

Geoff Johns knows comics. And he knows Hollywood. So who better to give his take on the perfect cast for a "Teen Titans" movie. Wizard turned to the writer of the Teen Titans comic for what we think is the next great untapped DC property headed to the silver screen. We gave Johns a $100 million budget and his own casting couch. As part of Wizard's massive movie event in issue #150 (onsale in comic shops Feb. 25), Johns will provide his perspective on who should star as Robin, Superboy, Wonder Girl, Beast Boy, Cyborg, Kid Flash and Starfire. But as a little taste to get you excited, check out this wizarduniverse.com exclusive for who Johns selects to round out the Teen Titans' universe, villains included. For Geoff's picks, click here.

New Teen Titans Animated Page Updated

In 1983, Hanna-Barbera was developing a New Teen Titans cartoon series. The series would have featured Wonder Girl, Raven, Starfire, Cyborg, Changeling and Kid Flash. Robin would not be in the series, presumably because he was busy as a member of the Super Friends. Wonder Girl would be leader in the series and villains would include Trigon and Blackfire.

The New Teen Titans Animated page has been updated. A rare cel from the anti-drug commercial and the original series model sheet are now viewable as larger images.

The Return of Hawk & Dove

When last seen in JSA, Dove went in search for her 'Hawk.' In Wizard #139, Geoff Johns said: "Raven will appear towards the end of the first year She's different from the other Titans, more of a rebel," notes Johns. "Also,be on the lookout for other familiar faces, including Captain Marvel Jr., Hawk and Dove, a shocking Ômilestone' DC character.. .and that's just the beginning!"

Titans fans should check out the Teen Titans Message Board at geoffjohns.com. A recent thread assured that Hawk & Dove are on track for TEEN TITANS' second year: "Yep, Hawk and Dove will be in Titans Year 2 sometime," Johns said in a thread titled "Are there still plans for Hawk and Dove in TT?" dated January 26th.

Perhaps the return of the classic duo will coincide with their animated debut on an episode of JUSTICE LEAGUE's third season on Cartoon Network; The original odd couple brothers are slated to appear in the upcoming season.

Who is Rose Wilson?

Seems to be the question of the week. Rose is Slade's estranged daughter from a tryst with former Oriental Clan Princess, Lillian "Sweet Lili" Worth. Slade did not learn Rose was his daughter until she was 14 years old. Their relationship has always been a turbulent one.

Rose first appeared in DEATHSTROKE #15 in 1992, where Wintergreen suspected she may be Slade's daughter. Rose next appeared in DEATHSTROKE #42-48 in the HUNTED storyline. During that story, her mother was seemingly killed by the third Ravager and she learned Slade was her father. Rose was placed in protective custody with the Titans and became a member in NEW TITANS #122-126. Rose tested positive for the meta-gene and had an extensive precognitive dream in DEATHSTROKE #51 [no mention of her powers has been made since then]. In DEATHSTROKE #55, she left the Titans and embarked on her own. She next appeared in JLA/Titans #1-3 and later became Lian Harper's nanny in TITANS #25-50.

There seems to be some confusion about Rose's age. Rose is established as 14 years old in DEATHSTROKE ANNUAL #4 in 1995. That places her at about the same age as Cassie Sandsmark. Because of her independent nature [and her more mature appearance in the recent TITANS series], many people thought she was older than that.

For Rose's full story, check out the Rose Wilson page here at titanstower.com.

Wizard #148: Teen Titans 2004 Preview

Wizard #148 - on sale now - offers various previews on what's coming in 2004. Be sure to pick it up!

Teen Titans: "They might be weekend warriors, but saving the world continues to be a full-time job for the Teen Titans in 2004. Obsessed with the Titans after their harrowing first clash, Deathstroke trains a new student - the all-new Ravager - while tracking the young heroes on their quest to rescue Raven from the bloodthirsty 14-year-old Brother Blood. "Cyborg will also reveal the secret of his cybernetic parts, Kid Flash learns to drive and Beast Boy gets ready for a trip through public persecution."

Also, a new Supergirl is coming in the pages of Superman. And the Outsiders will be facing a villainous group that used to plague the Teen Titans.

Teen Titans Characters Get DC Direct Treatment in 2004

From Toyfare #78, February 2004 in an interview "Direct Connect" by Tom Root: Toyfare dials up DC Direct head honcho Georg Brewer

Toyfare: One of the things fans are grooving on right now is the new Teen Titans comic book. I assume the new toy line is in response to that?

Brewer: Absolutely. The first wave is Robin, Wonder Girl, Deathstroke - who I think will make everybody happy - and Blackflre, Starfire's sister. The second wave will be Superboy, who's already sculpted and looks kick-ass; Impulse in his Kid Flash costume; Brother Blood and the new Trickster.

Toyfare: We hear there's also going to be a second wave of First Appearances figures.

Brewer: It's going to be Superman, Robin, Hawkman and Green Lantern, and I'm really excited to do the Superman First Appearance. It's going to be the most different Superman figure ever done.

Nightwing Action Figure in January 2004

From Toyfare #78, February 2004 in an article "Year of the Bat" by Keith Chow

"Underworld" will be the theme for the core line of Bat figures to hit in January. Featuring villain Killer Croc, this first wave will consist of 12 figures including new Croc-hunting versions of Nightwing, Robin, Batman and even Bruce Wayne, and 11 more figures are due for the fall quarter. [click here to see Jim Lee's sketch for the figure design.]

But the biggest development on the Mattel front will be the creation of an all-new figure line based on an upcoming cartoon being developed by Warner Brothers. "You'll see a brand new segment of [animated] Batman figures, vehicles and accessories," promised Joe Kavanagh, product manager for Batman at Mattel. Expect the cartoon-based toys to be distinctly different from Mattel's "core" line; they promise that every new line - based on comic, cartoon or movie - will have its own style."

And nobody has more style then the Four Horsemen, the tiber-sculptors responsible for most of Batman's 2003 lineup; they'll be back designing more of 2004's Batman product. Also, look for Mattel to take a cue from Toy Biz's Marvel Legends line and pack their figures with some four-color premiums.

The Origin of the Teen Titans: It began in 1980 when editor Len Wein and I first approached DC COMICS Publisher, Jenette Kahn, to revive an old DC title called The Teen Titans. There had already been two different versions of the book with the original dating back to the early 60s. For the full article, click here.

Games Play: The story of "GAMES," the NEW TEEN TITANS graphic novel that almost never was, goes back to sometime between 1986 and 1989. After spending my entire life in New York, I had relocated to Los Angeles, not to break into movies or TV, but to get away from the harsh New York weather. I was writing a number of comics including The New Teen Titans which I had co-created in 1980 with extraordinary artist and fellow co-conspirator, George Pérez. For the full article, click here.

Marv Wolfman Clarifies Future Project

I wanted to send this quick note to Titans Tower to clarify what is probably a confusing point. As you now know, DC, George and I will be finishing the Titans "Games" graphic novel that we began in 1989. When I discussed working on a DC Comics novel in my What Th--? column, many folk, including the guys at Titans Tower, assumed I was referring to "Games," and I sent a letter letting everyone know that I was not. Let me assure you that is the truth. Were I referring to "Games" I would have said I was working on a graphic novel. I said novel. I can't at this time reveal what the novel is - DC asked me not to as they prefer breaking news themselves - but it is a prose novel of about 80,000 words, and it's based on one of my DC projects.

I'm in the early outlining stages now and when it's ready to be announced, DC will issue its press release and I'll talk about it on my website, www.marvwolfman.com. Thanks for understanding that, despite the "Games" announcement, I wasn't being coy or lying to you guys. I really was talking about something else altogether.

TEEN TITANS Renewed Through It's Fourth Season

Marv Wolfman, who wrote the TEEN TITANS comic book for 16 years, recapped his history writing the popular comic book. You can read the whole article by clicking here.

Marv mentions the TEEN TITANS cartoon has been ordered for 4 full seasons! "The Titans have also become a major animated series appearing on both The Cartoon Network and The WB. It seems to be a hit and has been renewed through its fourth season."

This makes sense if they plan to eventually strip for daily airings. Each season is presumably comprised of 13 episodes. That would make 52 episodes total for a four-season renewal. This is great news, because it means that the creative staff can plan on spreading out the introduction of new chaaracters and story arcs. It's Official: DC Announces GAMES - George and Marv Return to Titans!

item courtesy of http://www.comicon.com/pulse/

The much anticipated sixteen year old New Teen Titans graphic novel that was half complete by Marv Wolfman and George Pérez is finally going to be released. When people learned that the George Pérez/Marv Wolfman New Teen Titans graphic novel from 1987 was not going to be completed due to Pérez suffering a creative block, some Titans fans were crushed. Off and on through the years, Wolfman and Pérez would mention the unfinished project, never going into too many details, but always with the sentiment hoping it would be finished someday. That day appears to be December 2004. The graphic novel features the original New Teen Titans team as well as Jericho and Danny Chase.

Completing George Pérez's duo of flashback projects, DC will publish his and Marv Wolfman's New Teen Titans Graphic Novel which originally began production in 1988. Pérez had over 70 of the pages draw before the plug was pulled, and the final page count of the GN should run in the 120 page range. Set in the era of the "classic" Wolfman/Pérez Titans, the OGN will include a new framing sequence by Wolfman and Pérez that will allow the story to stand in current continuity.

Marv Clarifies DC Graphic Novel Project

In Marv's "What The-?" column at silverbullets.com [November 2nd], he spoke of a project for DC Comics. Despite rumors concerning the unfinished graphic novel, GAMES, Marv informs titanstower.com that he was not referring to the infamous Titans story. The DC project is a different project all-together. While not at liberty to discuss, Marv tells us it's exciting nonetheless.

Teen Talk: Turns out that JLA/Avengers won't be the George Pérez superhero swan-song after all. Pérez is currently re-teaming with Marv Wolfman on their unfinished 120-page graphic novel, The New Teen Titans: Games, started in 1989. Pérez had finished nearly 80 pages of Games before over-commitment to new projects forced the artist to put it on the back burner. Expect an official announcement next year as we get closer to con season. To read a good summary of the whole saga go to the titanstower.com GAMES page

Marv Hints at Graphic Novel for DC: Could This be GAMES?

courtesy of Marv's "What The-?" column at silverbullets.com, November 2nd

Could this be concerning the unfinished Titans Graphic Novel, GAMES? Marv says: "At any rate, that is how my past few weeks have been spent. I'm back home now, watching a literal ton of DVDs while I push past a bad case of jetlag, turning out a few plots and by the time you read this, hard at work on a novel. I can't tell you the subject quite yet - DC prefers to do their own publicity - but this is something I've been looking forward to writing for almost two decades. I've also been told about another major assignment I can't yet talk about, but I can guarantee some people will be very happy when DC breaks the news (am I riding a very fine line here or what?)." for the full article click here

From Wizard #146: H-E-R-O writer Will Pfeifer "plans on folding old Dial "H" continuity into his new take by bringing back Chris and Vicki, the two youngsters from the 80's incarnation of the book, as well as original dial-wielder Robbie Reed, who fans learned in issue #7 was now a hardened criminal searching for the device! "Robbie will be more and more part of the story, because we wanted a thread to tie the book together," noted Pfeifer."
