My life had always seemed like a dream to me. My mom and dad were the greatest-he always seemed to have the answer to any problem, and I could always count on mom to help me forget my troubles. Even my bratty little sister and brothers were okay-and when they got on my nerves, there were plenty of places around the castle where I could hide with my dragon, Dan!
But then, something terrible happened-something so awful I can hardly describe it! I was just starting to get excited about the prom. My date was the most perfect boy in school, Cody Driscoll, and even though I'd already accepted another boy's invitation, I knew everything would work out fine, like it always did. Little did I suspect that my life was about to be shattered forever.
First, I saw Cody and some other kids wearing some really strange clothes. That wasn't so bad, although I did wonder if something funny was going on. Then, not long after, my family and home justfaded away. The next thing I knew, I was in some kind of science lab, lashing out at these kids I thought had just wiped out everything I've ever loved with some kind of amazing beams. I have no idea how I got these incredible powers, but using them seemed totally natural!
When things calmed down a little, I noticed that my gown was gone, and my skin seemed to have turned transparent, somehow. I was beginning to wonder if I was human at all. Cody was there, too, and he whisked me onto some kind of flying saucer and into outer space, along with another boy and girl, and a tiny man who could fit in the palm of your hand, and some kind of space creature. I had no idea where we were headed. All I knew was that my family was gone, and I had changed. I was a freak. What the future holds for me I just don't know. But I will say this: I have the feeling that my life will never be the same again.
