Tiny Titans#1 to Tiny Titans #50
As the creators like to say, “they’re the same Titans you know and love, but they’re really, really little.” Tiny Titans was launched in January, 2008 as part of DC’s new kids line. The series was co-created by Art Baltazar and Franco Aureliani, best known for the humorous all-ages comic, Patrick the Wolf Boy.
In Tiny Titans, the characters from the regular Teen Titans universe are portrayed as tiny children and deal with outrageous and fun situations in their schoolyard and classroom, or in the Titans treehouse. The Tiny Titans encounter characters that regular comics readers know as evil villains, but in this comic, the conflicts will be more oriented toward teachers vs. students or the little Titans dealing with mean kids. The bad guys are like the bullies in the school, and the substitute teacher happens to be Trigon. And the principle of the school is Slade. He’s really strict, so they call him The Terminator.
But most of all, the comic was designed to make readers laugh. And the gags were devised to play upon those things in the comics that we all tend to laugh about anyway — like the kids figuring out that it’s no fun to play tag with Kid Flash. After 50 fun-filled issues, the series drew to a close.
“Tiny Titans #50! Wow! It’s here already! Seems like we just started!” series co-writer and artist Art Baltazar told DC Comics The Source Blog. “So glad to be part of this history making comics event of the ‘AW YEAH AGE’ of comics! Issue 50 is surely the grandest of milestones of my comic career thus far. Our fans are the best in the world. Thank you for all the love and awesomeness. It’s so cool to see all the Tiny Titans fans at shows and conventions. YOU GUYS are the inspiration! Tiny Titans has truly changed our lives-thank you for the life-change! Looking forward to 50 more issues with Superman Family Adventures!!! Aw to the yeah.”
“Tiny Titans#50! Wow, that’s pretty cool!” continued series co-writer Franco. “This has been one of the best working experiences of my life. Where else can you get the past, present and even future characters of the entire DC universe to play with? I’ve lived with these characters my entire life so when we got the chance to work on this title it seemed like Robin, Kid Flash, Starfire, Raven and all the others took on a life of their own. They wrote their own adventures and Artie and I just happened to be there to record what was happening! The fact that we’ve been blessed with truly awesome, loyal fans and awards gives us the validation that we were doing something very special. Thanks to everyone!”
