As a special bonus for fans, the panel will also screen the world premiere trailer for the upcoming and highly anticipated Cartoon Network/Warner Bros. The upcoming season will be the last for BRAVE AND THE BOLD. But producer James Tucker is already busy working on a new Batman animated series in development! The panel showed an upcoming episode featuring Bat-Mite and Harley Quinn.
The panel also spilled some interesting tidbits on YOUNG JUSTICE. Producers Greg Weisman and Brandon Vietti (pictured below) revealed some juicy details: the series itself takes place on “Earth 16″, with some insinuations that this Earth would also appear in DC Comics to coincide with the series.
On this earth, things are a little more “grounded” and “realistic”, according to the producers. The Justice League hasn’t been active long, and in their universe, they’ve become fast celebrities. Because they’re in the spotlight so much, they need to develop a covert ops team. Which is why “Young Justice” is formed.
The Leaguers (pictured above) will be featured regularly, with Bruce Greenwood as Batman, Alan Tudyk as Green Arrow, Phil Lemarr as Aquaman and Rob Lowe as Captain Marvel. Other Leaguers include Flash, Green Lantern (Hal Jordan), Martian Manhunter, Red Tornado, Hawkman, Hawkgirl, Zatara, Captain Atom, Black Canary and Green Lantern (John Stewart).
The cast itself looks like a mash-up of the original Teen Titans and Young Justice members from various eras:
Robin: Voiced by Jesse McCarthy. In this series, he’s a 13 year old Dick Grayson, but he’s been Robin for a few years time.
Kid Flash: Voiced by Jason Spizak. He’s Wally West and he’s 15 years old. Not quite as fast as the Flash.
Aqualad: Voiced by Khary Payton (who also provided the voice for Cyborg). He’s not Garth, but Garth will be appearing on the show, we’re assured (no word on whether Garth would be Aqualad or Tempest). And confirmed on the panel: This new Aqualad’s father is Black Manta.
Superboy: Voiced by Nolan North. Superboy is close to the comic book version. He’s a 16-week old clone, and he’ll eventually assume the Conner Kent secret identity.
Miss Martian: Voiced by Danica McKellar. Martian Manhunter’s 16-year old niece.
Artemis: Voiced by Stephanie Lemelin. This 16-year old heroine is neither Arrowette, nor Wonder Girl nor Speedy. But she is an existing character in the DCU! The panel refused to reveal who, however.
Speedy: Not part of the team, but Speedy (the Roy Harper version) was seen in the trailer.
They showed a trailer for the show and it looks pretty sharp. It looks like the kids aren’t always getting along with their mentors, either.

Well, this explains some things… I for one am curious and looking forward to it, though I know some others who have made the identity of “arrowette” a reason to take issue with the entire show.

It really doesn’t bother me that much that they aren’t using Cissie, Mia or Cassie. I’d have liked to have seen Wonder Girl but again it’s not a huge issue. Still I would have like to know why they used this mysterious person and not one of the others. What made this character more appealing?
I wonder who it is thought. The only blondes I can think left who they would use is Secret, Stephanie Brown or Bette Kane. All of which have identies that could have been used. Anyone else have theories?

I’m really looking forward to this show. Yeah, they’re taking their own approach and not following the comic canon but that’s okay. The approach to the mythology looks like it’s going to be pretty fantastic.
Although I have to admit I’m a bit disappointed that it’s Dick Grayson and not Tim Drake who is Robin. I was really hoping to see Nigtwing show up as a sort of older brother mentor for the group. But on the other hand I LOVE that Robin is the youngest member of the group. The idea that the 13 year old is the leader and most skilled of all of them should make for interesting dynamics.

Okay, so according to his article in CBR (http://robot6.comicbookresources.com/2010/07/sdcc-10-peter-david-writing-episodes-of-young-justice-cartoon/), Secret (AKA Greta Hayes) might be involved in the very first episode. Yay!
