Dark Speedy?
By Harper. Filed in commentary |
As we saw in this week’s [THE FALL OF] GREEN ARROW #31, Oliver Queen decides to bring vengeance for what happened to Lian and Roy Harper. In the process he goes rogue, facing off against his wife, his son and his friends. But, in the final page, we realize that Speedy has joined Oliver and his vendetta. And she’s about to deliver a kill shot to the Electrocutioner, Prometheus’ ally in the destruction of Star City.
I wonder if Ollie will give her the chance? This moment also reminded me of TEEN TITANS #1/2, where Rose became the Ravager by killing her uncle and joining Slade’s mission. Will Mia become an anti-hero? Will she kill in the name of revenge?

Electrocutioner was the villain the Titans fought right before Speedy joined, way back. He was trying to steal Luthor’s suit from two kids (one was name Benny, he got picked up by Warp) after he got the information from the now deceased Bolt.

This has to be a trick on Mia’s part.
First off, because the end the issue with Mia ASKING for the chance to kill Electrocutioner. If they really wanted Mia to go rogue along with Ollie, they wold have ended the issue with her killing him. Remember how Cry for Justice ended with Oliver killing Prometheus? Every time they do a cliffhanger like this where the character seems ready to do something out of character, the next issue reveals its some kind of trick.
Secondly: Turning Mia into a villain/anti-hero would take away from Oliver story of his descent into madness. Having him trying to kill villains, while at the same time trying to control a sidekick who’s also got a taste for murder would honestly make the story unnecessary complicated. The whole point of the story arch is to tells Roy and Oliver’s journey. Mia, Dinah, Conner and the rest of the arrow family are only supporting cast members. I don’t see them taking the spotlight off Olli so quickly, considering this is the second issue of the storyline.
Either Mia is trying to trick Oliver, OR if they really are going with the “lets ruin ANOTHER character” approach, Oliver, or someone else will stop her before he can do it.
Of course considering they maimed Roy, and killed Lian in the same plot, maybe I’m giving them too much credit…

I think you’re giving them too much credit. After all, it’s more ‘adult’ for Oliver’s mania to corrupt his emotional daughter. Never mind that I believe Mia was meant by Kevin Smoth to be a positive character–someone who took all the misfortune and tragedy life had handed to her and chose to rise above it, to refuse to be defined by her condition and fashion a position for herself where she can help others. In DiDio’s World it’s so much more ‘edgy’ for a character to find a dark and conflicted place to go to no matter what their path was before….

It’s written by J.T Krul (which is why i am hoping that they don’t screw this up)… But if Dido has his way. Mia will most definitely be another ruined character. But I do agree with you Red Robin. IF they were going to do something. Then they would have done it already. I’ll be surprised if they do, but you can never rely on the logic of Dan Dido.

Chances are: Didio will get his way yet again.

Especially given that he’s had the keys to the kingdom handed to him….

I agree with Red Robin too. But I wonder if they could ruined other character of Titans? Sigh
