Jinx

Titans Tower File Photos:

Three teenage bad seeds – Gizmo, Jinx and Mammoth – were about to graduate from the Hive Academy and were looking to be employed by criminal patron Slade. But first he asked them to pass one final exam: destroy the Teen Titans. Gizmo, covered head to toe in high-tech gadgets, is a pint-sized boy-genius with a bad attitude. Mammoth is not just big for his age, this ultimate bully is big for his species. Jinx is a beautiful but arrogant witch able to cast hexes that bring her enemies the worst kind of bad luck.

The three criminals took over Titans Tower – but were ultimately defeated by the Titans. They are still trying to graduate the Hive Academy to become villains in their own right.

When Cyborg infiltrated the Hive Academy as “Stone”, the trio of delinquents befriended the new student, unaware of his true identity. Jinx even developed a crush on “Stone” until she learned he was really Cyborg in disguise. Jinx also allied herself with the “Hive Five” – a mischievous group of fellow Hive Academy students.

In an effort to score points with the Brotherhood of Evil, Jinx and her teammates actually managed to cage new hero, Kid Flash. But when a guy can vibrate his molecules through solid objects, he’s hard to keep a hold of! By the time Madame Rouge arrived, Kid Flash was off and running.

But just when Rouge had Kid Flash on the ropes, Jinx realized that her idolization of Madame Rogue was misplaced. Using her bad luck powers, she freed Kid Flash. At that moment, Jinx realized having bad luck powers doesn’t necessarily mean you have to do bad with them. Jinx and Kid Flash later aided the Teen Titans in their final battle with the Brotherhood of Evil. It looks like Jinx’s luck is finally beginning to change.

  • Lauren Tom provides the voice of Gizmo as well as the voice of Jinx.
  • In the episode WAVELENGTH, Bumblebee learns Cyborg had a crush on Jinx by accessing his memory circuits.

Story Editor/Writer Rob Hoegee on Jinx: “I think it was a lot fun to see [the Hive kids] in their own environment. Y’know… let’s not see them as bad guys but as high school kids. Let’s see them as regular people despite it’s a school for super-villains. Character-wise, they’re the same. But now we see them with their guards down. It was fun to play with those high school stereotypes – but to do it with bad guys. I mean, they’re worried about the ‘theory of mayhem test.’ All those things are fun. [And Jinx is] a fun character. If only because so many fans have such a fascination with her. She’s sort of our ‘Boba Fett.’ So we are aware of that and when we use her we try to do something a little special with her. ”

Gizmo, Mammoth and Jinx are all members of the Fearsome Five, a villainous group that plagued the Titans from time to time. Gizmo was a middle-aged midget, Mammoth was a slow-witted behemoth and Jinx was an elemental sorceress who hailed from India. The Fearsome Five first battled the Titans in New Teen Titans [first series] #3 and #7. Jinx joined later in Tales of the Teen Titans #56-58.
